P-47 repaint advice

Hi there!

I can't help it:
Although I still have a lot to learn to master this beast (and not to fly-behind-it, as I do by now...), I feel the need to repaint it.
I know, there is a lot of gorgeous repaints out there (and already stored in my hangar), but I would feel better if it's my Jug bumping and rubber-smearing on that always-too-short runway... :wiggle:

It's that D-25 'LM-S' #226641 of 62nd FS, 56th FG that caught my eye.
As I know by now, the Bubble-tops of the 62nd were delivered unpainted and got their camo 'in the field'. It's also said that the 'RAF green' was overlaid on 'RAF light sea grey'.
Can anyone confirm these colors?

That's what I've done up to now (I know, the olive drab needs to be replaced and the insignia and lettering should be pushed to the front).

Regards,
Markus.

You could try asking Ndicki in the CFS3 forums, he's the WWII paint genius and is very good at picking out subtle colours etc.

hmmmm ...

... in here there's a "Hairless Joe" - a P-47M-1-RE with A.A.F. S/N 44-21125 besides others ...

Salü, Gnoopey!

Of course I know your '-M' and spent lots of 'mania' hours with them!
But to be honest, I'd rather prefer a 'worn' and 'hard working' style and due to my limited repaint skills, I was never able to get your textures working that way. Please don't mind...

@ Firebar:
Thanks for this idea!
Hope this kind of 'cross-posting' will be tolerated... :engel016:

Cheers,
Markus.

.... of course I DO mind - LOL ...

Hallo Markus,

seems we both have the same 'problem'. My own repainting skills are also just good 'enough' for such pretty much 'factory fresh' stuff like the above shown ones.

I also understand, that the 'real' painting 'wizards' are going (have done so) after the much more 'rewarding' payware Jugs (unfortunately IMNSHO) ;)

Thanks for your understanding!

This may be a poor consolation, but in the past, I also couldn't resist to customize your Superfort:
This is my rendition of a more-or-less fictional WB-50 weatherbird (the 'Alaskan Command' polar bear crest is fictional, but i like it there...), and you might notice the slight modifications I applied (wheel rims and cowling textures taken from the Pepper/Gibson's C-118, faded alpha).

I really love this big bird, and when it comes down to long hauling, she's the one to be first rolled out of the hangar! :applause:

Sali,
Markus.

Markus,

as soon as you have something downloaded and installed in your FS hangar, it's completely yours! You're then free to do with those 'ships' whatever you like :)

Not exactly a poor consolation but I always enjoy it very much, if somebody else enjoys what I'd done! On the other hand, I feel a tad bit guilty to not have finished a 'real' WB-50D ... :)redface: )

Hi there!

Just made my upload at AVSIM:
A2A/Shockwave/WoP P-47 Thunderbolt, depicting the P-47D-25 "LM-S" of 62ndFS/56thFG, RAF Boxted should be available soon!
Look for P-47D LM-S.zip

Cheers,
Markus.

Merci beaucoup, Stephan!

It's hard to find a Jug you didn't already repaint... :d
56th FG is almost complete depicted.

A big thank you goes again to Bomber_12th!
With the help of your terrific paint kit, smashing on some paint is just a piece of cake.

Next one in line for me should be this one from 5th Emergency Rescue Squad, completing the "Boxted Air Show":

I've painted 5F-X "Galloping Catastrophe" from 5th Emergency Rescue Squad but to be honest this was not a great job !
I wait for your release...;)

Best regards,

Stephan

Arrrgghhhhhhh....

Dear Stephan,

maybe next time, I should perform a deeper research among my stored repaints before choosing my next project...

But I very much like the idea behind the 5th ERS to use "war weary" and drawn-out-of-first-row service aircraft to be the dinghy-dropping "first aid" for downed air crews.
Maybe I could put some more stress on the "worn" apperance of those rescue fighters...

Salu,
Markus.

That would be great, Markus...;)

Thanks, guys!
Glad you like her.

@ Jan:
Your 'Racine Belle' looks gorgeous!
Too bad that my FSX remains nearly unused - modeling and textures of the WoP III Jug seem far ahead the FS9 version... :faint:
