P-51D "Tiger's Revenge"

"Tiger's Revenge" was the personal mount of Lt. William "Tiger" Lyons, assigned to the 357th FS, of the 355th FG. For those who have seen the old History Channel series called "Heavy Metal", with one of the episodes on the P-51, you probably already know Bill Lyons from that show. He is one of the most real, relatable, and down-to-earth guys I have ever heard, when talking about his experiences during the war. It has been on my mind for quite some time to do this repaint, as a small tribute to an amazing gentleman.

As you can see just by this one photo, Bill's plane was very well-kept after, and even well-polished by the looks of it.

His aircraft now brought back to life in FSX, in the form of a repaint for the Warbirdsim P-51D "Little Friends" product.

Note the 'blood'-dripping from the letters of Revenge - depicted just as the name artwork originally was as seen in the photo above.

I just have the data-plates in the cockpit to fill out for this particular Mustang, as well as the radio call-plate on the instrument panel, and then it should be done and will be uploaded here. I hope you enjoy!

For those fimiliar with the tail-number differences between Inglewood-produced and Dallas-produced Mustangs, you can probably easily tell that this is a Dallas-produced example. The serial number is also very close to that of Dallas-produced K-models, but it is in fact a D-model. 44-11342, was one of the last of a batch of P-51D-5-NT's produced, before a batch of P-51K-1-NT's were produced - with very similar serial numbers. A P-51D-5-NT, was identical to, if I recall correctly, a P-51D-15-NA. In the cockpit, you will find a Dallas, TX data-plate.

How about "Spam Can" or "Ex-Lax; Sh*t or get" those would be awesome paints....More PTO. Just a friendly request, from someone who appreciates free paints! :)
 
Mud, this one is on my short-list, which is an Iwo Jima Mustang, and of course through the use of the Iwo Jima model within "Little Friends", it will be properly represented with all of the Iwo Jima mods (unlike the scale model depicted).

And a scheme like this has been on my mind as well, though applied to the Iwo Jima configured model.

I'll have to dig up enough photos/resources on the original aircraft, before I start on any similar schemes to these depicted.
 
BTW, the POF P-51D that was painted in the colors of "Spam Can" (now painted in 4th FG colors, with just the original Spam Can nose art on the right side), is a P-51D-30-NT, and was manufactured with the antenna configuration as seen on the Iwo Jima Mustangs. Despite not having the antennas installed today, you can still find all of the paneled-over ports where the various antenna masts were mounted.
