Just thought I would share my feelings (for what they're worth) on the trilogy so far.
When I first stumbled across P1 for CFS3 (thanks to my buddy Fortiesboy) I have to say, I wasn't overly excited, due to my disgust at CFS3!
Having come from the world of CFS and CFS2...CFS3 was just a joke! (and at Microsoft prices, not even a funny one!!)
I thought, "Oh great....another bland effort to pull a sinking ship out of the sh*t"... But with some encouragement, and a sense of "oh well, it's free, so nothing to lose" I awaited it's release.
Sure enough, along came the opportunity to download it, and what a revelation!..Yes, it still had some CFS3 stuff about it, and my rig wasn't quite up to it, but it was great fun, the planes were superb, and I began to fly it more often than FS2004...which as I love that Sim, was no mean feat!
With some great advice and help, both from Fortiesboy (a mad keen flyer btw!) and all the guys and gals on here, WW1 was finally showing signs of coming of age!
With eager anticipation, I awaited the great things that P2 would have to offer!...and even though things went wrong with the hosting and downloading, I got my copy downloaded pretty damn quickly!
Once it was on, I fired it up, and again, marvelled at the work that had been done.
But (and this is where I will probably get shot down in flames) I didn't play it very much at all after the first weeks..... I didn't really like it!
Now, before you all go off on one...... The reason I didn't like P2 as much, is due to me!..Not OFF itself.
Yes, the gameplay was great..Yes, the graphics were excellent, but I found it rather dark and grim... a little too much 'Bloody April'
I could never quite seem to get it running very well on my system either.
This due in part, to my moving away from the keenness I had felt after playing P1...and perhaps not trying as hard to tweak it etc.... But like I say..that was me, not P2!
That said, It must have had an impact however, because I was back, as keen as mustard for P3!
When my DVD arrived, and I opened the case...there was a disk!..No downloading...a REAL DVD disk...in a BOX!
Hmmm..... Now, let's see what this is like shall we?..was my first thought!
I installed it over P2, and fired it up!
WOW!.... with hardly any tweaking at all, it looked and flew brilliantly..straight out of the box!...It was bright, and crisp, and new!...I fell madly in love with it, the moment I jumped into my SE5a!.......... I have flown it every single day since it arrived, and I love it more each time I start it up!...It is everything I hoped for in a WW1 simulator and much, much more!....The real zenith so far, in the OFF story.......
