P2 hangs up after mission is over

When I click Officer's Mess after a mission and then select Yes to end I get to the Windows screen and it just hangs there. If I go to Task Manager and kill the "~f1do55.tmp" process the appropriate OFF screen loads up and all is well. It does this every time regardless of what I fly. No biggie, just haven't seen it mentioned before.

Sounds like the dreaded "Hang on exit bug", but I was sure they fixed that. I know I haven't experienced it in quite a while. Do you have the Final Hotfix V1.9e installed?

1.9e is installed. Thing is i'm also not getting any credit for missions either, is that because of the hang on f1d055.tmp file? Just did another mission (Campaign) to check it and all went perfectly but it says I have 0 missions and 0 kills..

Hmmm. I've never experienced that AFAIK. With the old "hang on exit bug" it would freeze after you clicked "Officer's Mess" and the only thing to do was reset the computer. I've never had it fail to record missions and claims. Even in Quick Flight the number of missions is recorded as are the number of claims. The pilot log in "QF" is optional. It can be turned on or off in Workshops.
No, I've never had that particular problem.:isadizzy:

Just created a new pilot and confirmed it. Have to kill the temp file to get OffManager back on screen and when I do it loses all saved data... which in this case was 3 kills and a DFC!

1.9e fixes Hang on Exit issue definitely GaryR. If it was working before and now isn't then sounds like something is corrupt.

What changed on the system recently? New video drivers, new firewall update/ AV? Make sure your firewall or AV isn't blocking something (check the logs).

This is a brand new install Polovski, over a fresh install of CFS3 on a Vista 64 system. I'm going to do an uninstall/reinstall to see what happens. I was just killing time until P3 arrives next week..

Removed P3 folders from \Microsoft Games and under \Documents, then ran CFS3 uninstall and when it was done deleted all folders\files. Went into registry and deleted all reference to CFSWW1 and CFS3. Anything else i'm missing before I reinstall?

That should be cool Gary. But I'd also do a registry clean (Ccleaner is good if you have it) just to be sure. Also do a search for all files (including hidden) containing "over flanders fields", ww1scenery", "cfsww1", "cfs3", "combat flight simulator" you know that sort of thing to remove all traces.

In XP anyway, 2 folders always appear like magic, when the search incudes your Hidden Folders. Failure to delete those puppies, and your problem comes back again, and again, and again :ernae:

Oh well.. Did a VERY good cleanup of anything CFS3 or OFF P2 related, used Ccleaner to be sure (thanks Catch22), did a complete reinstall to 1.09e (shows in game as 1.09E) using "Run as Admin" for all exe's (My UAC is off anyway), set all exe's to run in XP Compat mode, etc. etc.. Same thing. game runs perfectly but when I go to Officer's Mess it hangs on the desktop forcing me to kill the TMP file and loses all my records... would love to know why.. Sure hope P3 works better for me!

Hello Gary,

Can you confirm for me:

1) The version number in workshops bottom right.

2) That your AV is allowing both OFF and CFS3 to run correctly.

To test 2) stop your AV (disconnect from internet first to be safe) and try again.

Best

Turned off AVG Antivirus completely, but looking in it's reports it made no mention of previous problems with CFS3.

Same result. Officer's Mess puts me back in Windows Desktop. Center portion of screen, when scrolled over with mouse, changes mouse from arrow to hourglass, regardless of wait you must kill the temp file with Task Manager..

Thanks for any help Winder!

Couple of questions. GaryR--

Do you overclock? Also, have you fiddled with or adjusted your memory timings at all? I did both and had some problems with OFF2 kicking back to the OFF manager in the middle of a flight and the occasional "hang on exit." I had to relax my overclock and my memory timings slightly in order to cure the problem, so it is something for you to think about.

Don't give up, though. I'm sure someone will have the answer for you! :karate:

Yes, but only a little (8400@3.6Gz running at 42C) and the machine is 100% stable. Never even the hint of a crash in any sim, including OFF P2. it's only the exit that gets me.. Really not a big deal with P3 due in my mailbox (possibly tomorrow!) but I most likely will be installing this on others systems to get them hooked so i'd love to know why it's happening.. in the meantime i'll keep knocking down the German "drones".. saw a pilot jump out of his DR1 in the last quick mission, laughed my butt off!

GaryR I have that CPU and can run at over 3.7 even 4.0Ghz no problem in games, but get occasional crc glitches in Winrar .. i.e. it's not happy. So I clock it back to 3.6 (with a huge heatsink on). When you play a game that temp goes MUCH higher (mine nearly doubled). So I knocked it back a notch. Suggest you turn it down and test at least we'd know it's not that. Also have Vista 64 here no problem at all with OFF P3.

The fact it drops you out of game sometimes sounds like CPU or memory (overstretched /hot maybe) or video is quitting.

My CPU was overclocked just a little too (13%), but I found knocking it back to 12% solved the problem. Also, everything else on my 'puter was rock solid, with the exception of OFF, so I suggest you still experiment a little.

I will set everything at default in BIOS and try it. Don't misunderstand me, it NEVER drops me out of a game, the game runs perfectly 100% of the time. The only issue is when I try and exit via "Officer's Mess" after completing a mission. It should save my results and open up another OFF screen. What it does is close the current screen (hanger) and go to the windows desktop and sits there with either an hourglass or a small circle with a line through it (from OFF). ONLY way for me to continue is to use Task Manager to end the temp file. At that point the correct OFF windows open and show me as I was before the mission, i.e. 0 mission, 0 kills, etc. I can then keep going and fly another mission, end the game, or whatever..

I'm going to try and save all the screens so you have a timeline if the BIOS reset doesn't do it.

Edit: System set to BIOS optimized defaults (3.0Gz) and exactly the same results... except it takes longer.

OK good that's 1 thing ruled out.

No need we understand what it looks like ;)

Well something else is causing it firewall? Unplug from internet. Shutdown firewall (some actually need you to uninstall even when disabled btw).. try that.
