P3 is up, but if I want to keep P2 running?

I've got P3 up and running and it is a beauty. In my case I knew the game was over specs for my computer, but if I limit what I do still enjoying it until I get my new rig up and running.

Question of the day, if I want to keep a version of P2 available, is there a way to do that?

Looks like the original CFS3 folder is still there, so is there something special I have to do with the naming of folders if I attempt to reinstall P2?

I asked this a while back and IIRC Winder says that you cannot have P2 and P3 on the same computer.
Like you, I have a new rig coming, so I will keep my P2 on my present rig and then save P3 for the new rig.

If you want both, it looks like you need to uninstall P3 from your present rig and re-install P2 on it - and then wait for the new rig to play p3 on :)

A test of will power -lol

Guys... you CAN run P3 on your present rigs, with enough detail and graphics to make it look 100% better than P2.

Don't short-change yourselves because you think you can't. I ran it for months on a half burnt (my GPU fan sounds like a dying whale, so I know it was cooking) 6600GT. My CPU is a AMD3200 XP.

My rig is 4 years old, and P3 runs very well on it. Albeit, a few options turned off, but not enough to kill it. It looked fantastic as the screenshots I was posting in my combat reports showed.

Try it first before you think otherwise. You'll be pretty surprised how good it really looks.

All the best,

Just turn the terrain and scenery sliders down one notch and u should be good to go!

There will be a way

We just have to find it. There has to be more to it than a visual slider pull as the ai are different.
Some may want to have phase 2 and 3 so they can fly with their friends who have to wait to purchase phase 3.

I will exsperiment and when i get it working i will post here.

OVS is not wrong. I'm still getting used to the interface and perhaps a bit of increased difficulty level for using some planes I've never tried before, so I need to get used to everything to find the sweet spot for my rig

Avoiding rain and snow is helpful.

I have plenty of ram ( 4mg) and a current era graphics card that's up to the task ( Nvidia 8800GT 512MB) but the killer is my processor 2006 Dell Dimension E510 with Pentium 3.0 GHz with HT

Similar with BOBII, can reasonable handle instant action freeflight and dogfights, but fill the skies with planes and it's like flip card animation.

I've promised myself that I won't buy another off the shelf rig, want to build my own so this may force the issue

just re-reading my own post...thats a Pentium 4, 3.0 ghz......pentium 3 yikes that would be scary!

Is this true? What if you do a 2nd, separate install of CFS3 in a different folder than the default and load P3 to it?

OFF is one package and has been developed in phases - so this is P3 of the same product - each time you install, it upgrades to that Phase.

Given that its one application there is only one set of registry settings - so no matter what you do it will not work.

There was never any intention of making them three standalone apps.

So you can have any phase running but only one at any one time.

This applied P1 to P2 and now P2 to P3. And if there is a P4 it will still apply.
