P3Dv3 Migration tool....?

Hello Chaps,

Sorry to sound like a nuff nuff.... but I would like to know a little more of this "migration tool" that I have read about in some of these threads? I have read that people use it to get their FSX stuff to work in P3Dv3.

My questions are....

Does it work on all FSX stuff?

What does it really do?

Is it any good?

Where can I get it?

Regards,
Tim...

It basically fools the add-on installer into thinking it's installing into FSX rather than P3d.
It should work with most add-ons, although some complex add-ons may still not work.
Be aware that it can cause issues with some genuine P3d add-ons, and may need disabling before using those. I've seen many posts on various support forums where the problems were down to using the migration tool.
Installing some FSX add-ons into P3d may be against their EULA, so check first.

I don't use it myself, most of my add-ons are P3d ready, and those that aren't I've posted over manually where necessary.

Thank you Dave for your insight. I feel a little ripped off... Last year I had purchased the IRIS PC-9 FSX/P3D Bundle for $60.00, thinking that I will one day I will up grade to P3D. But when I went to install it tonight on P3D it tells me that I have the incorrect version of P3D!?!?! So now do I have to "re-purchase" all of my addon aircraft again?

So confused and a little frustrated. Been reading that this new P3D is the "Ducks Guts" but seems to be a nightmare for payware addons...? Am I missing something? Is there a trick (or how does one go about) installing manually?

Cheers,
Tim.

Yeah, it can be a bit of a pain. Some manufacturers provide FSX & P3d compatibility as standard at no extra cost (Aerosoft for example), others sell only FSX or P3d versions (PMDG, VRS (not v3 yet)) and some others will provide a discount if you get a dual license (A2A).
Looks like the Iris PC9 is only licensed for FSX & P3d2. Doesn't look like they do it for V3.
If you still have FSX installed, a lot of the time you can simply drag aircraft over into P3d, making sure you copy any gauges and/or effects as well. Some add-ons put entries in the dll.xml file, which will need to be added manually. Another trick it put a dummy fsx.exe file in the P3d folder and point the installer to that. If that fails, then you may have to start looking at editing the registry, which is not really recommended!

Bought it and most of my FSX add-on installed with no problems. B-707 Captain Sim won´t work, together with Milviz F-15. Don´t know about others. Anyway think it is worthwhile. Cheap and good product

One problem identified with this tool is that if installed in P3D and running, it will prevent the Milviz night lighting from working. The latest F-100D manual includes instructions on how to avoid that (dll.xml needs to be edited to either deactivate or not load the estonia dll when using a Milviz model).
