Put your serious aircraft managment hat on. :isadizzy:
Here's a couple of screenies of the aircraft available in MatrixGames "War In The Pacific".

Everytime I've accessed these particular menus within the game it's always been impressive.
I've had WITP for a few years, but even being an Avalon Hill classic addict growing up, this is still one dauntingly complex piece of software.
Out of all the times I've given a full hearted go, this current game I just started is turning out to be the first time I've been happy with my strategic plan early on.
Date: 01/11/1942
I decided this time to make a massive effort to take Guadalcanal as fast and as early as I could. I've never been in control of this island for very long at this early of a date. Most of the time the Japanese kick my butt back off almost as soon as I get there. I think it may be different this time.
Currently I'm holding the island with a motley batch of ground units I evacuated from the Phillipines and scrapped together from some other odd places after the attack on Pearl. There's not many of them, but to counter-blance that I have almost every combat ready Navy warship that's available right now surrounding and defending the island.
Somehow I also managed to get a very small sqd of Marine F4F-3s and some PBY Catalinas already operating off the barely ready airstrip.
CV Enterprise - On station just south of Guadalcanal. She's covering the area packing the first F4F-4s that I've seen so far along with F4F-3, and Dauntless sqds.
CV Yorktown - About 1 days sail from reaching the area with her F4F-3, Dauntless and Devastator sqds.
CV Saratoga - About 1 day out of California heading to the area with the same aircraft loadout as the Yorktown.
CV Lexington - Is sitting at Pearl under repairs from some damage received
during the intitial attack on Pearl. She should be sea ready shortly and also heading to the area.
Also 1 day sail from Guadalcanal is my first truly organized convoy to reach the area. Its carrying the 2nd USMC/1 Div along with some B-18A Bolos and F2A Buffalos I scrapped together. Wooo Hooo, hurry up boys!
Now interstingly a heavy bomber gamble is paying off. As soon as the war started I sent every 19th BG, B-17C out of the Phillipines and stashed them in Australia. I reorganized Port Moresby and when it was ready I started sending the B-17Cs there. Just a little bit ago the first B-17Es from the 93rd and 7th BGs became available and I've been shuffling them to Port Moresby as best I can. The base is far overloaded with aircraft and under manned with aircraft ground support so bomber sorties are still infrequent. Despite this overworked airstrip my level bombers are already pounding the main Japanese airstrip in the area at Rabaul. On the last bombing mission there was very little enemy CAP up.
Already in the area between Guadalcanal and Rabaul there have been several force on force Naval engagements. So far so good in every battle. no ships lost and several enemy ships already sitting on the bottom.
Still not confident yet of my hold on the area but it's best I've had at this date so far.
