Memorial Day Flower Drop at Palm Springs Air Museum: May 25th at 1PM
B-25 Bomber will drop 3,000 carnations over the museum’s tarmac
This year the Palm Springs Air Museum’s Memorial Day Ceremony pays special honor to 27 local families whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice. The Palm Springs Air Museum will also commemorate the 70th anniversary of the ending of World War Two. Banners with their names and the date of their sacrifice will line the parking lot.
After a brief ceremony with color guard and singing of the National Anthem, four fighters (P-38, our P-51, our P-63 and a Spitfire) will fly overhead and make the missing man formation. A vintage B-25 Bomber will come out of the European Hangar, take off, and after a couple of passes, drop 3,000 carnations from the sky over the Museum’s tarmac behind the museum. The flower drop honors and memorializes all veterans who lost their life defending the US. The white carnations are in honor of those who fought in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. The red carnations are in honor of those who died in more recent conflicts including the Persian Gulf, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Sponsors include Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the HN & Frances C. Berger Foundation, the Houston Family Foundation, Forest Lawn Memorial Park, McDonald’s Restaurants, All Custom Golf Carts, Desert Water Agency, and Palm Springs Volvo.
In advance of the Memorial Day Ceremony and Flower Drop:
• Flight exhibitions start at 10 am: Aircraft scheduled to fly are a P-38, our P-51, our P-63 (one of only four in the world that are currently air-worthy,) a Spitfire Supermarine, our T-28, and a Stearman (PT-17) courtesy of Tom Ackland, plus the B-25 dropping the flowers.

Events are included with regular admission to the museum which ranges from $9 to $16. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own portable chairs. Active Military and their immediate family with ID and children 5 and under are free. Family rates are $32 and $40, depending on the age of the children.
The Palm Springs Air Museum is an educational non-profit organization whose mission is to Preserve, Educate and Honor. Over 28 flyable planes and interactive exhibits are housed in 65,000 square feet of climate-controlled hangars. Flight simulators, children’s center and a 9,000 volume library help make history come alive.
