There is a 2D panel on a 757 that when selected shows every additional panel option superimposed on top of the main panel image. It's like flying with the hood up. I get throttle, overhead, radio, etc all at once. I can close each one to get rid of them but I would like to have just the main panel show up when picked. Can someone explain how to fix this? I don't remember the author and haven't flown this one in some time.Thanks in advance.

Shoukd be an easy fix. Check the panel.cfg file for the various windows. See following example.

I'm guessing your bird is showing visible=1. If so, change it to visible=0, save it and check out the results.
 
Interesting. I did forget to mention the very first [window] is always visible=1 as it is the main panel. Sorry if that messed things up. However, if you can turn them off then, obviously you can turn them on and the visible=x is that switch.

I haven't seen any other scenarios like this so I'm out of suggestions. Hopefully, someone else in this awesome group has the answer.

In ALL sections marked Window01 upto Window13, make sure the line
visible= .....
reads
visible= 0

Just changing that can NEVER result in a crash.

Also note that :

1. Always use a pure text editor (like Notepad) to change a panel.cfg file, to avoid additional formatting characters in the text.

2. After loading a saved flight (saved prior to making this panel.cfg change), always Reload the aircraft via the menu and save the flight again.
Reason: the open/closed status of 2D windows are saved in the .flt file and are set when you load a flight, irrespective of the current "visible" value in the panel.cfg. The "visible" value in the panel.cfg is only used when your reload the aircraft.

After switching the values to 0 then loading, saving, etc, the panel still loaded with all the others showing. Making use of the mini icons to close them then saving and re-loading the game initiated another crash. Re-starting from that directly to the same place again caused a crash. Clearly other gremlins are rejoicing. I think I'll just leave it alone and use the icons to clear things up each time. If anyone wants to mess with this further, have at it.
 
After re-reading your original post I am assuming the panel author has created a custom view control of some sort that causes the panel to load that way. That must be how he likes it.

I think there is probably some kind of custom gauge that you would have to disable in order to get the panel to behave as most panels do.

Could you post the config for this panel?
