Panels for Akemi's DINAHS and B-29 question

tonybones2112

Charter Member
Are there any panels available for Akemi's KI-46 Dinahs? I have two, and swapped the panel from his KI-45 Nick into the files. They work, there is a cockpit around and you don't have the sensation of flying in free space.

Also, has anyone done a B-29, either the whole aircraft or skins, for the stripped down B-29s used in fire raids with the black painted undersurfaces?

Thanks

Ki 46 Panel

Tonybones,

Alphasim made a Ki 46 with the panel you are looking for. I think that it might be in the library here in the "Alpha Oldies" section.

For CFS 2 B-29 bombers, Gnoopy's Superfort is the plane you want. It too should be available in the library. I don't know of a night-late-war skin for it, although it shouldn't be too hard to to modify one as such.

I am not sure about the Blacked out...........

but I also recommend the b-29 Sky Queen by Christophe Rosenmann www.flightsim.com

Not sure what Christophe Rosenmann alias is.........

But you can get paintshop pro at oldversions.com and paint it anyway you like.........

And if you feel real ambitions..........there is a FSC and Gmax model over at freeflight design

Yet, it is hard to beat Gnoopy's models

Now in the Future if you ever need a new panel. I will give you several Website links with plenty of panels to choce from!

Panels and more Panels. Some times you will like to change your Planes panel. Now that more than possible. I will give a few sources where you can find some nice Panels.

To install a new panel all you need is to find your plane folder. Go inside the Panel folder and copy the new Panel and paste it by overiding the older panel. Vola! you have got a new Panel for your plane. Thats it!

CFS2 does not have very accurate World war two panels but it does have relative accurate panels. One thing that CFS2 panels have is that it allows the user on 2D view to inter react with the switches and nobs in your panel with your mouse

Now thats cool!

If you do not find it please come back and we as a community will hel along!:jump:

Jagd, thank you for the attached panel, but this panel for the Alphasim Dinah is not in the download from the Outhouse here. I've downloaded it so far twice. I did it first time prior to this message being posted, I was wanting to see if I could snitch it for Akemi's Dinahs. I don't know how to configure this attached panel as regards to size and don't know where to begin hunting for gauges. I don't have the knowledge yet to assemble the pieces/parts, though I am slowly learning. I took this panel and changed it to a .bmp file and added that to the panel.cfg file in the AS Dinah, I got a lot of pixelation from the edges of the canopy frames. Both Akemi's Ki-46s and the AS at least fly with the panel folder from his Ki-45 Nick, you don;t have the sensation of being in free open space. This effect I'm looking for is called Virtual Cockpit? If you have the complete panel folder for the AS Dinah would it be too much trouble to bum it off you? I'm having fairly good luck assembling a collection of representative nightfighters for Japan, Germany, Britain and the US(along with...targets). The Dinah was a major player in the JAAF roster of nightfighters, I'd love to have a complete historical representation by Akemi and AS. I'm having a problem with the auto-pilot feature in the AS, that may be my equipment/program. All 3 planes are fine aircraft, Akemi is first rate.

You probably know this, but Curtis LeMay saw the costly daylight raids from high altitude was a repeat of the bombing in Germany, he ordered the B-29 stripped of all defensive arms except for the tail stinger and the planes be loaded with incendiaries. Many of the planes had solid black undersurfaces and attacked from no higher than 7000 feet. This essentially destroyed the Japanese ability to wage war, the country was literally burned out. It was this campaign that the Japanese Army Air Force nightfighters came into their own though the Navy was an important factor also.

In getting to know all of you in the CF sim community, both US and offshore, this is one endeavor I find to be the least political. It certainly no deficiency in patriotism on my part, I just prefer skittering through a formation of B-29s merrily firing Oldwheat's Schrage Musik mod for the A6M5 Zero or sneaking up under a Stirling and blowing the wing off in a Bf-110. I've flown the Beau and P-61 against Axis night intruders and found the Axis side to have been basically dogmeat, a turkey shoot(I am getting ready to load the P-38 Nightfighter and go against the Japanese RITA in a "1946 whatif?"). I can't get the (former)SIMTECH Do-335 to unzip, that is a separate issue and posting.

Thanks for your help, as time goes by I may learn to do textures and do a black undersurface for a B-29.

Banzai!

Thanks buddy. I am a fanatic plastic modeller, in the late 70s MONOGRAM came out with the B-29 in 1/48 scale. I removed all the guns except the tail guns, did the undersurface black, and did a fictionous noseart and named her TOKYO ROSE-TER. I used to display it next to a solid black RAIDEN and a deep electric-blue OSCAR III.

Thanks so much for the links ME. It's a shame the biglobe site is down, dollars to donuts the panel for the Dinah III is there. Jap aircraft designations were...weird. There were three basic models of the Dinah, the I, II, and III. Save for a 7.7 mm gun for the rear observer, the planes were unarmed. As recon they were among the fastest piston planes of WW2. The Dinah III KAI was actually a Dinah II with a forward and schrage musik gun. The actual Dinah III that Akemi has is the true third model, which had a bullet shaped nosed. I'll have to consult Francillion to see if he has a view looking from the pilot's seat, might be an aid to making an accurate panel for the Dinah II.

Thanks again!

I have a panel for the KI-46 done. I used the panel bmp from the Alphasim collection (the same one Jag posted a pic of) and have it populated with stock and MoparMike gauges (MAPE Japanese). I need to get the gauges packed up with the panel bmp and config file and get it uploaded. Will tackle that tomorrow...not feeling good at the moment....eating McDonalds large value meals twice in one day so my wife can have those Coke glasses is taking its toll on my 40 year old body.

Obie, it's colder than a well diggers assets, us Buckeyes need our protein. I'm hooked on black angus burgers, at 4 Obamadollars a pop I'm about into destitution financially. The Xmas lights will fade, we'll be into the desolate desolation of January, and it'll be back to McDoubles for Tony Bones.

On the Dinah III, I don't think the problem is the panel, I am just looking for a historically accurate canopy/interior for that bullet-shaped nose of the Dinah III. As I said, the III-KAI is a II set up as a bomber interceptor, and the Alpha panel looks good both in the Alpha and Akemi's II/III KAIs. I like having a plain texture(Akemi's) and the white Home Defense bands for the Hinomarus(Alpha) for the II, I'd love to have an accurate panel/canopy/interior for Akemi's Dinah III. I wish I could have gotten into this years ago, I might have inspired some unique A/C for us Nipponophiles(first models of the George and Raiden had a gun in each wing and also in a bathtub. I think there was a Claude nightfighter, and there were George's in the Philippines that had the single upward firing cannon, as did models of the Raiden based at Yokosoka. We also need schrage musik for the Ki-45 Nick).

I'll be looking for your Dinah panel. Not to get off topic, but has anyone done a Beech staggerwing for CFS2?

Banzai!
