In the next issue of PC Pilot, there will be an interview with Dovetail Games in which they will discuss their view on the future of flight simulation, the direction they're headed, and their views on third party addons. Issue will be out Aug 21st..

Cant wait, should be interesting.

That does indeed sound interesting.

But IMHO the future choices are clear to me: either Dovetail takes FSX further or we'll have to move on to P3D.

Looks like you will be moving to P3D. I'm still interested to see what they bring out next year even if it's based on the Flight model.

Not necessarily! If they continue on the Flight engine and make a 64 bit sim, both FSX and P3D will eventually disappear from my poor overloaded harddrives!

The future of flightsim (or any game - NOT calling flightsim a game!) will be DX11 and 64 bit. That is of course just my HO.

Will be interesting to know where they plan to go with the FSX license, who knows.

Whether 64 bit or not, dx11 or not, whoever builds the next sim really needs to account for performance headroom for 3rd party addons and have design limits built into the SDKs, because that is what causes most users grief, all the crap they add to the sims.
