this is doing my head in now.i dont recall installing any airbases in to my install.maybe thats the problem.i dunno.

So, let me get this straight:

Other than adding 5 new runway entries to your airbases.dat file you are working with a clean, stock install of CFS2?

All you have done is add 5 runways entries to your stock airbases.dat file?

Nothing else has changed?

Can you take a screen shot of the error message and post it here?

PS: scruffbag, do you understand that adding airfields/scenery for use in Quick Combat and Free Flight is one thing. Another thing altogether is to make the runways in that new scenery available for use in missions and misson builder?

This is a key point.

To make a runway in a newly installed scenery available for use in Missions and have it show up as a little grey X icon in Mission Builder's (MB's) layout window, you first have to add a runway entry for that new runway to the airbases.dat file. The airbases.dat file controls which runway(airfields) will appear in MB's drop down location menu and show up as little grey X's in MB's layout window.

Furthermore, you don't have to install the new airfield "scenery" in order for the runways to show up in Mission Builder. As long as there is a runway entry in the airbases.dat file, a grey X runway icon for that runway will appear in MB's layout window and the runway will be listed in MB's drop down list of airfields- unless there is some sort of "syntax" error in the airbases.dat file: such as an out of sequence runway number or a missing end of file marker.
 
i have added the PHP2 planes(apart from p40,wont let me download them) and scenery,1 mission,some ships,and a few other bits and bobs.not much at all.it all went wrong when i tried to add hawaii bases to the airbase.dat.i cant get a screen shot for you cus i dont know how to.this is reason why i gave up with this game in the first place.i been sat here for 4 hours trying to figure it out.
 
Well, I admire your sticktoitiveness. I guaranty you that it is all relatively simple but you have to realize that fooling around with this "game" means paying very close attention to details and following all of the rules. Its pretty easy to run the 'ol smoke test on CFS2- not fatally- but just enough to get it PO'd at you so that it doesn't want to work.

The key is to be patient and very organized and methodical. Then you can have some real fun.

Let me ask you this before you turn in for the night: does putting the stock airbases.dat file back in there get rid of the error message? If it doesn't then the problem is not with the airbases.dat file. The problem lies some place else.

Here is a copy of my stock airbases.dat file. See if it works. Rename your current airbases.dat file anything you want and then drop this one into your cfs2/info folder.

!!PS RENAME IT airbases.dat before you drop it into your CFS2/INFO FOLDER!! Hehe! Don't want to contribute to anymore confusion! LOL!

didnt work.maybe its not the airbase.dat file.i just want you guys to know that i really appreciate youre time and effort in helping me,your stars,i :salute:you.its making me:isadizzy: and my head wants to go :pop4:. fell like im :banghead: ,and im :barf:of this game going wrong.but i will persever,as long as i got guys like you helping me,you deserve:medals: and a :icon29:.cheers.
 
Just want to make sure: You renamed my airbases_stock.dat to airbases.dat before you popped into the CFS2/INFO folder, right?

Hehe. Well, in the morning or tomorrow sometime, try right clicking on the file. Click "properties" then the "General" tab. Un-check the "Read Only" box if it is checked. Then click ok and change the name.

Another thing about messing with CFS2: one needs to become familiar/comfortable working with files and windows explorer and all that sort of stuff- as you know.

Hopefully you won't need to change some sort of administrator setting in order ti make a simple file property change.

Hmm.... I have a feeling he must have fixed it. He seems to be tackling the MB. I see he now is trying to figure out how to have partly sunk ships. Boy, he sure is learning fast! Hey Scruff, how DID you fix your problem?:ernae:
 
i kinda cheated.i uninstalled then installed game.sorted.never did figure it out,but after 8 hours i figured that was it,time to move on.
