Performance issues - Help needed

Hey Fellas,

I just started playing OFF2 and can honestly say I am consistently getting shellaced by the enemy!:mixedsmi:

The bigger issue I'm having is performance. I'm running an older machine:
p4 2.4g
Radeon 9600 256mg card
dx 9.0c
1MG RAM
resolution in game is 1152x864
clouds are at 1, all else at 3 on display settings.
(btw, trying higher res. and higher settings dropped my fps, contrary to what is said in the tips sticky)

I don't think my settings are too high, even for the older processor, but in campaign I continue to get sub 20 fps and down under 10 in dogfights. There is also some stuttering occassionally.:banghead:

I have followed all the tweaks in the tips/help sticky - what else can you recommend?

Thanks! T

9600 omg

I was sure I was the only one still chugging along with one of those.
I am afraid your close to where your going to be.
My settings are near the bottom on every setting but aircraft detail which is higher. I run in the 20's - 30's mostly.
big dogfights are still a problem, but if you make sure your running through the AGP slot at 8x and your settings are as low as possible you may be getting all there is.

I went out and bought a new agp card...vt2400 512..
because I am a contractor and money is tight in the winter so I wanted to stretch out an upgrade a while longer...
cant run it though I'm running windows 2000 and it needs xp minimum.... son of a.....

good luck

Thanks for the reply's. I'll try a couple of different settings.

Is it the resolution or display settings that is going to have the greatest impact on fps?

Thanks.

no sliders... ;)

Also check for Anisotropic and Anti-aliasing settings in display settings. Lower them perhaps.

At the begining of P2, I was running AGP, 6600GT, never topped 20, 18 with a good tailwind, 10 in Dogfights. A dogfight over an airfield we're talking slide show.

I think you're right up at the performance level for that processor

Along with the suggestion to move terrian & sliders to 2

In Workshop there are 2 settings Below Normal for Details check'em out

PS .. I just noticed a whole bunch of new smilies. Icky is getting more generous

Also it sounds as if you're allready at the maximum reolution, if not bring it up and see the difference. I realize this makes no sense at all, but OFF actually runs smoother as you head north with the settings

Get more ram(2GB) and a better processor. 3GhZ P4 is fine.

Ok, I flew last night and found some settings that seem to be workable. With scenery and terrain at 2, I'm getting fps in the low 30's. I got into a fight over my airfield and the fps dropped down into the teens, but wasn't too bad. That's the good news - bad news, I got shot down again! Actually, my plane was badly damaged but I managed to land safely.

Resolution is set at maximum which doesn't seem to hurt my fps. I'll fiddle with the resolution a bit more to see what is best - it may be the one I've got now.

Great sim! Very challenging. I'm flying an eindekker in 1916 near Vaux. I've only got about 3 hours flying time (this campaign) logged but managed a lucky shot that brought down a Brit.:icon_lol: Unconfirmed as of yet.

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions.

An Eindecker?

You're flying an eindecker?

Ladies & gentlemen, we have a real man (or woman, just in case!) in our midst today! :banghead:

Try flying a DVII for better chance of not being swiss cheese - but only if you use your head in the beastie!

LOL, yep the eindekker! I thought it was supposed to be a strong performer in early 1916?? Or was that the year before??

I guess my "noob-ness" is showing!:redf: I have noticed that it does not turn well. In my defending the aerodrome flight last night, I stalled out multiple times trying to turn on the neiuport that ultimately got the best of me. He was outclimbing me like a mo-fo! I had to use a lot of rudder and some altitude to recover from those stalls.

Its a neat little aircraft and I thought it was a performer for the time period. Maybe I need to transfer to a jasta with some newer equipment.

Salute,

I didn't know that one...screen resolution.

I too have a very old computer with only 1Gig and was very sad about the preformance. I just read this thread and moved my screen resolution in game to 1200x900 and boy what a dif. I could not alter the cfs.xml file in the default folder though.

Lederhosen, IIRC the cfs file in the default folder can simply be viewed using word or the notepad. I don't believe it is a xls file.

best of luck to you in air!

Rather simple actually . . it has NO alerions, it's a wing warper. It only reason it made a made a mark for itself, was because it shot, through the propellor without shooting it off.

Step up to the ALB DII not only does it have alerions, but you'll get a second Machine Gun to boot. :kilroy:

Salute,

managed to change the FPS to "30" in the cfs3.xml file (default folder) with notepad, and got a nice smooth run playing a 4 vs 4 dogfight. Seems to run ok for me now. Thanks guys
