Phase 3 Install and DirectX

Does the installation of CFS 3 and Phase 3 in any way impact the Direct X level for hardware and for software?

I have some other games on my machine and they ran fine before installing CFS 3 and Phase 3, but now I'm getting some weird texture errors with them after installing CFS 3 and Phase 3. Usually these errors come from some kind of a change to DirectX level on the hardware or the software scheme.

My video card is an Nvidia GeForce 9500GS, but for some reason it now has a max DX level of 8.0 (seems low?). Software DX level is max at 9.0.

OFF P3 has NO DX components...at all.

But Microsoft's CFS3 does and asks if you want to install DX - I hope you did not say yes?

If you have then normally your GPU card has a driver disk that has DX9.0c on it....

Edit the DX on CFS3 is DX7.0 or DX8.0.. so that's not the issue - sorry cant help.
But you do need DX9.0c to be up to date for most games IIRC

Hmm I don't recall CFS 3 even asking if I wanted to install DirectX. It may have, though it didn't actually ask me.

I did a web update and got the software Direct X up to 9.0.

However the hardware seems to sit at 8.0. This is a newer computer, so I could swear it should be 9.0 on the hardware.

Is the hardware DirectX level a download as well? I updated to the latest drivers via Vista, but still says 8.0. Is there some way to pull the car hardware up to 9.0 at least?

Type dxdiag in the run window, Vista is up to DX10.

Just about all games will ask you at the end of the install if you want to install Direct X.

But Direct X WILL NOT install a older version of itself on top of a newer version. So even if you did click yes when you install CFS3 it would not have install DX7 that came with it over DX9c.

Alright I got the specs on my card and system-- the card is native to DirectX 10, and vista should support that I guess.

I believe it came all set up with 10, but for some reason it's reverted to 8.0. I'll try the dxdiag tool this evening. I hope that tool provides some way of forcing it up-- it's a brand new computer.
