Hi all,
I want to know is it possible to use the VFR photoscenery for just a specific area.I want to get the VFR London package, and I understand that the stock ground textures do not match the building positions.I just want to use the Greater London area ground textures from my photoscenery. If you can which tiles are the ones that cover just London.
Thanks,

Hi,

The VisualFlight London scenery for FS2004 (as opposed to VFR London for FSX) covers a relatively small area around London:

and this is fairly well shown in this Avsim review:

http://www.avsim.com/pages/0705/VFLondon/VFLondon.htm

It also includes installation options depending on whether you have the UK-VFR photoscenery or not. These are from the notes:

"Terrain Scenery
This is the terrain scenery that forms the geographically accurate base on which the city scenery and airport are built. In particular it changes the course of the River Thames which is very inaccurate in the default Microsoft scenery and provides other details such as docks, marinas, tributaries, parks and lakes. This option cannot be unselected, but you can disable it in Scenery Library after installation if you wish, though this is not recommended unless there is a specific reason for it.
During installation you will be asked the following two questions:
Do you have VFR Photographic Scenery Vol 1: East & South East England installed and in use?
Do you have VFR Terrain Vol 1: England & Wales installed and in use?".
If you answer Yes to either of these questions, the installer will install the VFR-compatible version of Visual Flight London Terrain. This is the same as the default-compatible version except for where the River Thames joins the adjacent scenery. The default-compatible version is adjusted at the edges to align with the default river shoreline/coastline whereas the VFR-compatible version remains geographically accurate throughout."

Once installed the package completely replaces central London, so the positions of the default buildings shouldn't be an issue.

Which "Greater London area ground textures" are you referring to ?

I've had this scenery installed ever since it was released in 2005 (I live 15 miles west of London) and although it gives a massive system hit due to all the custom buildings it does look just like the real thing !

Hope this helps,

Alastair

Hi alastair,
I have the VFR Photographic scenery East & South East England.I do not use it as I do not like the loss of autogen that comes with it.What I want is to be able to take just the London section of these textures and use them when I get VFR London.if that is possible. The loss of autogen for that area would not matter as it would be covered by the new scenery.
The reason for this is that I have read that the default stock ground textures do not line up with the new buildings.
