Photoshop Question - Warping the image?

My memory is lacking, and I can't remember. So, here I am.

I've got a question that concerns warping. Not the image as a whole, but any given area inside the image.

Let me see if I can get you in the right visual mindset.

My image is set into place and over the paint template. Half of the image is right where it needs to be. The other half (from center forward) is incrementally progressing forward.

What I want to do is pin down the area that I don't want to move, but still have the ability to nudge the areas that are out of perspective backwards where they need to be. Also, when I try to warp a selected area, it is basically cutting itself from the rest of the image.I don't want that to happen.

If you look at the paint template in Photoshop (top)..in relationship to the sim, and FSrepaint, you can see where the image needs to be manipulated over the template, around the tops and forward sides (down & back) for alignment.

I hope I'm making some sense (see picture)

I have no idea what is meant by warping an image, I use Free Transform - Distort or Perspective often.

Hi Cazzie

Warping the image is just another form of tweaking that I use often. Well, I did anyway.

I know what perspective does. Hmmm..distort (thinking) I'll look into that.

After you click Free Transform, right-click the highlighted texture and scroll down to Distort, then left-click.

Testing that right now. Basically, distort & warp are the same thing. They both cut at the dotted lines if I don't pay close attention. I don't like that. I wonder if there is a plug-in that can be used for the chosen area to moved only in the interior. A nudge plug-in I'd call it. Something that had a feature to move by grid line

I have wished for a plug-in that could do this many many many times..

The only thing you can do is try to use Filter/Distort/Sphere. But... It will be challenging. Not really worth it.

What you could do, if you have Gmax or Max is to make a rounded shape, map that photo to it, and then rotate or distort the shape to fit the outline you need.

RE; the plug-in

I tried searching for one. No luck. atleast using by search terminology.

RE; Gmax or 3DSmax......not me!! I know nothing about modeling LOL!!!!

Can u possibly create a new layer with the whole fuselage paint scheme on it again then change opacity to 50% warp the sections of the paint on the new layer

Then delete/rub out the sections that cover the part of the original layer paint scheme that are correct and merge the two

Hope ive explained that well enough to understand...it does make sense but maybe only to me :173go1:

Hi Ole,

I would use the liquify filter. Just add a mask (red) around the parts of the picture you do not want to modify and then you can freely move and warp the unmasked part of the picture :)

I've never done anything like that. But I'll surely look into the attempt.

Can you be a little more descriptive in the process?

Never even thought of your method Tim. Though it sounds like it'd do the trick. I'll try it :ernae:
