[Pics] Shooting range at 7366 ft.

I have seen people sharing some beautiful pictures here, so here are some pictures I would like to share. This past week I spend a couple of days in Switzerland. The country alone is beautiful but add to that fast flying jets and it gets even better :d
The Swiss Air Force has a shooting range up in the mountains at Axalp. Each year in October they organize sort of an airshow up at the range where visitors can witness the life shooting and some other spectacular shows of the Swiss Air Force. Now there's one glitch to this airshow: it's up at 7366 feet and it can only be reached by foot. So from the village of Axalp that's a two hour walk (or more). But what you get back for your effords makes it more than worthwhile. Enough chitchat, here's an impression of the show on Tuesday :gameon:

I think you are very lucky, or very good.
Probably both!
A couple of photos there that I will tuck away and look at again and again, thanks for sharing them.

I saw some video footage taken some time back of this "air show". There is no way that the US would ever pull something like this off. To be close enough to hear the guns firing, so see the rounds hitting the targets...that is neat!

And I love watching video footage of those Swiss Boys flying fast and furious through that mountainous terrain. Amazing!

VinFlyer,....great photos. You and Ferry have a great eye for catching the action. Makes me wonder,...both you guys are from Holland,....maybe it's something in the water that developed you chaps into such fine photographers!:ernae:

Beautiful pictures. I recognize the range room shot. I spent some time in one while stationed in South Carolina. How did you get in there?

I loved the photo of the pilot in the cockpit. That was my favorite.

:) Thanks for the kind words, it's a pleasure to share these with you. I too am still amazed that the Swiss Air Force allows people to be so close to the shooting range. Below a shot of one of the targets they shoot at. It's amazing to see how precise they shoot at those distances and speeds.

It's not just the shooting range where you can get close to the action, also the airfields are a true paradise for (military) airplane spotters. I stayed near the airforce base Meiringen which is close to the Axalp shooting range. Below a few pictures of the situation at that airbase. The public road actually crosses the runway, when planes land or take off the road is closed temporary by the road barriers. I love Switzerland :switzerland: :jump: I'll try to post some more pictures I took at Meiringen later on.

I'm not sure this will work but I'm trying to embed pictures from my website here. If it works you should be seeing sort of a photo gallery viewer. Let me know if it works.

The comment in the above post didn't show up so I'll post them in this separate post.
