Piglets Hughes Racer

SOH-CM-2022
I've been doing a revamp (texturewise) of Tim's H-1B. I used to have the payware airplane (long since disappeared into an unknown hangar) and this one popped up over on Simviation. Of course as nice as it was I couldn't leave well enough alone, soooo. Exterior and VC have larger texture sheets, more detail and all done with what limited talent I have. This is an FSX native version (not sure if Tim was the originator of the FSX version) and it works in P3D_V4.5 however many of the gauges must be swapped out as the majority are "gau" types. I still have some rivets to add then I'll upload it but only if there is interest.

Hi Falcon,I am VERY interested. Regards, Bill (Wings of Gold)

An interesting project Ed. The Aerosoft Hughes racer was one of the first genuine FSX models. The VC was and still is incredible.

Piglet's model also still looks very nice, but from day one, it really deserved new sharper textures. So I'm happy someone finally does them.

Cheers,
Huub

Re: Hughes Racer

No, that's out of my pay grade, lol
Great Ed, I'm very interested as well. I've been an admirer of all your work, particularly the scenery files. I wish I had just a smidgeon of the talent that you guys all seem to have, 'cos you have all made my flight-simming so much more enjoyable!!! (I just barely know how to turn my computer on-definitely still an analogue person).

Best regards to you all

I believe I have everything as good as I can get it. I expect most are similar to me in that "tweaking" is a way of life so feel free to enhance your airplane if you keep it and maybe share your tweaks on here so others can add them or change as needed. My contributions were mostly in the textures for the two main texture sheets. Flight Dynamics are not in my wheelhouse so if it's found that the airplane requires an update in that area. . .please pass on your work as well.

I also completely redid all the gauges, mainly because most of them were "gau" gauges which wouldn't work in P3D even though the airplane model would. I swapped gauge for gauge with other "Piglet" airplanes, all of which are "cab" files. There are 4 I think that I had to borrow from other airplanes (also from cab files). This should make it easy to use the H1-B in P3D also.

Once I have everything collected and zipped I'll post it in the Warbirds Library. Sometime this evening probably.

Now that I've completed the update and posted it, I'm getting to fly it more and have spotted a few things:

The control levers aren't clickable, so you either have to use "autostart" or map a button or lever on your joystick or throttle to adjust the mixture, at which point the start switch will crank the engine.

The previous version had a split gauge in the center above the radio stack (left half in one window, the other half in the adjoining window (FSPS users will understand that). Anyway I was unable to get it to work after I had to swap that gauge out (a gau file). I could only get half to show. Anyway I rearrange a few things, stuck the Master Switch on one half and added a "Suction Gauge" static image to fill.

If you spot anything else please let me know and I'll fix it. . .or at least do my best to make it better.

Thank you so much for this, Falcon. I love the vintage racers. This is a sweet model, and very frame friendly on my jalopy of a computer. The only changes I made were to cut and past a Hellcat engine control set into the panel, because like you said, the engine controls aren't clickable, and I changed the critical altitude in the Aircraft.cfg file to 19,000 feet like in the payware a/c. This last is personal preference. I've had no luck finding the recorded critical altitude for the real-life engine online, but I do like going upstairs. I thank you again for all your effort.
