Piper Navajo for FSX?

I know FSD has a Piper Navajo, but what about freeware? I remember seeing one, I think, years ago, but the texture quality was not all that great, IMHO.

Years ago, when VQ-1 was transferred from Guam to Whidbey, many squadron members (myself included) took a GA flight from Seatac to Wes Lupien airport, Oak Harbor, WA. It was on a Harbor Airlines Piper Navajo. Quite a thrilling ride, because the pilot had to drop quickly over some tall trees, just before the runway threshold. Always thought it would be cool to "recreate" that flight, but not ready to shell out the cash for the FSD model. NC

NC, not sure about the Freeware version. I have had the FSD Navajo and it still holds it own today although, as you said about the freeware one, the textures on the FSD version are lacking by todays standards. I'll look around a bit and see what I can find.

Well, scant few freeware versions. . .one by JR Lucariny, another by John Loney (neither is very good quality and lacks VC). A few others are originally AI aircraft that have been made flyable, but the FSD version seems to be the only one with most of the "bells and whistles" and there are a lot of repaints available.

$19.95 isn't too bad and it's been a long-time favorite of mine:

Thank you so much, Ed! Pete

The FSD PA-31 is the best in FSX, but even it is just a FS9 aircraft patched to be more-or-less compatible with FSX. I have it, works ok, but I find the panel labels to be of poor resolution, the fuel tank selectors don't work quite right and several of the electrical switches don't work correctly. But, it is the best, so far, PA-31 for FSX.

The FSD Navajo is a nice flying plane. I think it trips up on rain causing the windows to become opaque, but there is a d/load file that fixes that. My only complaint is when you switch lights on, it causes various textures in the VC to become transparent. I'd love to know if there is a fix for this problem (?) - in the meantime, I just avoid using lights so I'm restricted to daytime flights only.

That is one of the byproducts of porting a FS9 model into FSX. Clouds and some scenery will also disappear when viewed through the spinning prop when in exterior view mode. There is no fix for the props, but you can edit the panel cfg file to alter some of the VC issues. Just look at the VC entry, there is a line that reads "background_color=0,0,0", just change the numbers to 128,128,128. This will make disappearing areas opaque gray.

Thanks for your suggestion, Stan. I think I've been down this route before (trying the background color thing), the problem occurs not only on a couple of (unused) spaces on the panel, but also around the edges of certain gauges. Anyhoo, will give it another go. Cheers. :very_drunk:
