Pitot tubes..?

During testing the NASCAR cars have these pitot tubes on the roof. Speed channel guys say it's to get “accurate measurement of speed” on the track, but that makes no sense. If there's any wind, it's not accurate. If they want accurate measurement of speed, surely there are better ways. GPS? What's the point of having pitot tubes for testing? It must give them something that they can't get any other way.

"Larry Mac" just "splained" it. Seems they don't simply measure KIAS, but wind direction too, and "more" (like what?) So they can get accurate speed readings. Thats pretty cool.
