Plum Island/Emma Field Pilots!!!

I haven't really seen this advertised anywhere except on the Emma Forum and with the meager turnout thus far I wanted to see if I could drum up some additional interest.
The folks over at the Emma Forum are having a Fly-In Saturday, Nov. 1st. (1900 UTC) The fly-in incorporates a "touch n' go" style flight plan that starts at Plum Island, winds it's way east to Martha's Vineyard and then back to Plum Island. . .touching down briefly at 8 different airports along the way.

I hope some more pilots can come and join the fun. Plum Island is a real masterpiece by Bill Womack and the price is really a bargain at $15 U.S.

Anyway, read the info over at the forum, think about it and then get your name in the pot as quickly as possible so Brad (btburgy) can get you lined up for take off. Hope to see you there!!
 
lol, this is probably why, out of almost 200+ pilots listed over at Emma Field, we only have a total of 5 participating in the fly-in. . . .78+ views to this thread and not one response, not even to say. . ."sounds good but I am busy that day". Just a lack of interest.
 
I have never done that but it looks fun..Have not a clue as to how to go about it..

But I do need my rig back first...

I as well have not traveled the skies of flying with others but someday I might go that rout. Looks like it would be a good time.

You should really give it atry!! It'a a Hoot!! I never fly offline any more I fire up X or 9 and right away connect to the server(I Host it for our club) some times I'm the only one on and sometimes not. What's nice with FSX is you can still use your AI traffic and the sim atc if you want to, can't do that with FS9 thou.
 
Just a note: although the Emma Field Flying Club is hosting the fly-in, we're flying out of Plum Island airfield and doing a circuit across New England. Emma Field is NOT required in order to join the fun!

Thanks Bill. . .I did mention that it started and ended at Plum Island, but the Emma Field Forum reference might have been a bit confusing.:applause:
 
Actually we have some 1200+ names on the Emma Field pilots list, but most have gone AWOL after we changed the initial web site.

I think the club will get its 'soul' back once we release the New Emma....

And for info: the original program was published by LAGO and made by Richard Goldstein (graphics).

What would that be back here in America in real time? Do you have to be on line or how do the aircraft connect? How do you pick a time to take off? I don't to have my J-3 Cub run down somebody's P-51. How do we communicate?

There are several threads on the Emma Forum that answer all those questions. . .however, I'll try to give you everything you need here.

1.) Yes you must be online, otherwise we wouldn't know you were participating. (1a.) You connect via FSHost Client for FSX or the Multiplayer option in FS9. (MP address is 64.22.78.67)

2.) You don't pick a time to take off you are assigned a take off time once you are signed up to participate over at the Emma Forum. Use this link then click on "btburgy" to leave him a message.

3.) The Fly-In begins and ends at Plum Island (ICAO 2B2) (a payware version for FSX is available for $15.00US at most sites) which has a relatively short rwy so a P-51 won't be flying in this event. Some of us are flying Piglett's Mooney Mite or similar aircraft.

4.) Communication for this event is done via Team Speak, which can be downloaded here: http://www.goteamspeak.com/?page=downloads
(download Teamspeak 2 Client). TS IP is the same as it is for the multiplayer connection.

Note: this is a password protected login for both the Multiplayer and the Teamspeak IP's but I can't give you that. When you send btgurgy a message to sign up, request the password as well.

You may have to sign up to be able to post messages though so be prepared for that.

To answer your first question last: I live in Texas and for me, 1900UTC equates to 1300 (1:00pm) CST.

One final word. Given the questions you asked initially, I get the feeling you've never flown online, nor used Team Speak to communicate (which also requires that you have a mic for voice communications). If that's the case, all of this could be a somewhat daunting task to get up to speed by Saturday for the Fly-In. I'm not trying to discourage you from flying, but realize that it could take some time to get all this working for you if you've never done it before.

Bill Womack, creator of the Plum Island addon posted a revised AFCAD for FSX that repositions the default airport to match his payware addon. That can be found here: http://forums.simflight.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=73236
(scroll down to where "spotlope" answers my question about where the fly-in starts and ends. . .the link for the download is in his text there).
The AFCAD can be converted for use with FS9.

You are right. That sounds too complicated for me. I hope somebody takes some screen shots of all the activities. It would give me something to show the Liars Club at Plum Island. We had a wedding there last Sunday. The reception was held in the hangar.
