Had not heard about this, but it is impressive. Since fuel starvation seems to have been the culprit the pilot was able to maneuver his jet properly to ensure it would miss any populated areas, got it low enough to be relatively sure it would impact straight and level and then ejected. The ACESII System is great and with Zero/Zero capabilities can give the pilot an extra edge during any ejection scenario he might be faced with. Always great to see that system work as advertised.
 
Not as dramatic as this story, but one of our Luke AFB F-16 flamed out over the gunnery range and was close enough to glide to the Gila Bend AF Auxiliary field.

Contaminated jet fuel of all things.
