Problem Installing the RealFlight Hellcat....

Krazy, that was my last thing I was going to try....not that uninstalling the A/V is hard, it's just that I'm on dial-up and it takes a while to update on the reinstall.....but, it looks like I'm down to doing just that if pontiuspilotus' IE content suggestion doesn't work.
QUOTE]

Rebooting in Safe Mode with networking might do the trick (no need to uninstall A/V, the machine will just startup without A/V).

Rebooting did'nt do the trick ...:isadizzy:
Same pb, same "error" message, same disappontment

Odie and Italoc are your FsX installs to the default location on your C drive?

Does the installer give you chance to select your drive before it stops working?

Oh dear this must be very frustrating. It finds your drive and then stops. So it sees your registry entry and points to the E drive. It's almost as if there is an installer problem (rather than Vista) that can't continue unless it sees a C drive?

Okay, thought I'd wrap this up with the list of things that I've tried since purchasing the Hellcat on 4/17 -

Real Flight gave me a process to shutdown all none essentials - No joy.

Reported results to RF and they said there was still something running that was a problem, but couldn't tell what it was.

Sent a note back to RF and asked them what else could I do since no one had an idea of what the software was that was keeping me from validating the serial #.

I tried to load the Hellcat on one of my XP machines and it died due to not having a valid copy of FSX installed.

In a return email RF Support said that they saw that the product had validated on one computer (the XP one). THe XP machine has the same A/V as the Vista machine.

In one of their emails, RF Support mentioned that their validation process needed an secure SSL connection. Google'd the Net and saw that SSL and Vista came up in a few areas. Thought this might be a lead so I passed it on to the RF Support guys. I couldn't make heads or tails out of the info so I thought maybe the RF guys could.

RF Support suggests that I run the installer in XP2 Compat mode. No joy.
On my own I ran it as administrator just for grins. No joy.

Dean (RF) suggested that I throw it out to the Out-house to see if there were suggestions there.

Spoke with Falcon-Northwest and they suggested completely uninstalling my A/V package.....said that even if it didn't load sometimes it caused things not to run right.

Outhouse suggested checking internet settings.....no joy.
Outhouse suggested booting up into safe mode in VISTA. no joy.

Gonna do the nuclear option on the AntiVirus as FalconNW suggested. Hate to do it as it'll take 5 hours on dial-up to rebuild, but I gotta give it one last shot.

If anyone reads this list and can think of anything else I might try....Heck, I've even tried installing with both legs crossed, uncrossed, arms in the air, even waved some chicken-bones around it....:icon_lol:

What's upsetting me even MORE than this is the fact that RF is working on a Bearcat and Tigercat and if they use the same installer....I'm S.O.L. and these are two of my favorite Grumman 'Cats !:icon_eek:

Oh well, I posted this not as a dig at Dean or RF, on the contrary I think they've looked at it closely.

Just one more shot to try and then I'll quietly fade away.........:bump:
at least with this a/c....

I thought you had completely removed your AV to try .....

You can DL AVG 8.5 for free to cover your computer while redownloading your old AV back on if you need to ........

I thought you had Trend...

Best to you...

Just to close this thread out....I pulled the nuclear option on my TrendMicro antivirus package and uninstalled it.

No Windows Firewall, No Windows Defender....nothing between me and the Internet except a whisper !

Tried the F6F installer set in XP Compat mode and in Admin mode...both times I got the same "can't communicate with server" error...at least it's consistent !

So, that's it....I think I've tried everything.

Many thanks to everyone who offered up suggestions here at SOH and also to Dean at RealFlight. It just doesn't look like this Kitty will go into the hangar which is a shame because it looks like one fine model !
