So...how much does a server for multiplayer really cost?

Quote from the interview at SimHQ:
Mark: You can still arrange to host a server yourself and invite friends for multiplayer. It was spoiled a little since MS decided to turn off their host servers, but this hasn’t really effected much from OFF’s point of view as most guys arrange a time and place to fly together using TeamSpeak or other voice comms and fly co operative missions as a squadron. We haven’t changed too much in this area; I believe you can now fly campaign generated missions.

I play CoD 2 and CoD UO in multiplayer many times and just thought that we can do a similar thing for OFF:
Pay for a server ourselves as an OFF community in order to have a permanent and 24/7 server running for OFF.
Can some of the other members tell us how much does it cost to pay a server to host multiplayer sessions?

This may take OFF to another level. On-line gaming is getting even more and more popular. So why OFF, which is an amazing game on single player stay on single player only?

Any thoughts on this??

I have a Windows 2000 Server I have used for race sims and Falcon 4 Campaigns. What does the server need to have in order to host P3? Does it matter what the server graphics are set at? Too bad there isn't a server exe for this, would be a lot easier.

Yep,

In Mickeysoft's Mechwarrior series, there were a lot of us who were able to run a built-in script that allowed the game to run automatically in multiplayer. As long as your computer and internet connection were running, you could have people join and leave at will. The nice thing was that it didn't require any input from the host - it just ran the preprogrammed maps. So you could host for others while you were at work, asleep, etc.

But I guess there's nothing like that available for CFS3 (and therefore OFF).:a1451:

This talk is getting me excited, if only... someone will work it out I think. :help:
