SOH-CM-2024
This one is done, all new textures overall, replace the download from last week, everything has been corrected and redone. I finished the wings, found the antenna posts and painted them. Corrections were made on the size and location of the upper wing chevron. New gradients for the wings wer done. Some detail painting of the wheel wells and a narrowing of the black lines for the fuselage stripe.

And for those that would prefer (Mick), an extra optional set of textures are enclosed for a polished Aluminum fuselage. :>)

I have included two formats, 888-8 and DXT3. Only the textures required are included in the zip.

VMF-2 On Parade

Thanks Caz! :ernae:
Outstanding work - as always! :medals:

Check this out! There she is, 2-MF-16, the very plane in all her glory, number seven in line, with the full yellow cowling:

Thanks to Jerry ("Tarpsbird") for the photo.

I kept the picture but not the caption, but if my memory serves me, the photo depicts VMF-2 taxiing to the dock to be hoisted aboard a carrier for a cruise with the Navy.

Note the SB2U Vindicator mixed in after the VMF-2 F3F, and before the red-tailed F3Fs. The red tail identifies the squadron as VF-5, so the carrier must be the Yorktown. Lack of a section color on the cowl would identify the SB2U as the Air Group Commander's plane, an unusual asignment since the Yorktown Air Group didn't have an SB2U squadron to provide maintenance and spares for it.

I'll bet whoever took this picture shot a bunch of others. What I wouldn't give to see them!

I wonder if this cruise was when 2-MF-16 wound up getting dunked in the ocean...?

Beautiful Cazzie. I've got a 1/48 model of her "flying" over my monitor. Now instead of imagining sitting in the cockpit, I can clime aboard and take her for a flight. Amazing how this here sim makes your models come to life...I'll never grow up.

I got my inspiration to do this from the 1/72 scale Special Hobby F3F-2 Curt. Like many, I gave up plastic modeling for the less stressful (at least for me) joy of painting flight sim models. Not to mention, this is much cheaper. But I built plastic models from 1958 until last year, finished my last in May of 08 and haven't touched one since. I may go back, but I think I just burned out.

Plus, I had gone as far as I could go in plastic modeling, I had all the awards, some Nationals even, that I could even win. I needed a new challenge and painting sim aircraft became that challenge.

In a way,. I enjoy turning an old sim model that is less than glamorous into a silk purse than painting FSX aircraft with all the super paint kits available for them.

On this wonderful plane from Aeroplane Heaven, I totally made my own layered paint kit. I plan to notate where all the various persnicketies are and make a base kit and upload it here for all to their own fun.

Caz

BTW,

I tested the fuselage aluminum by giving in an Alpha to make it look like a natural aluminum finish with aluminum doped wings.

Anyone want it, send me your email in a PM.

Great skin, Cazzie....I just d-loaded it today along with the plane from AH. Just a few minutes ago I had an intersting flight thru the Sierra's in N.Calif..
On landing I managed to hit a prop but otherwise landed upright....just for kicks I tried to start her up again and to my surprise the entire plane spun around the prop in a flurry of sparks....I wish I had been recording it at the time.

Now the bummer, after the sim reset itself , put me back in the air, I hit the escape key to go try another area and the sim froze completely and I actually had to shut the machine down manually cuz it was locked up....I'm suspecting it has something to do with the FS2002 gauges....has anyone else had a problem? Should I replace all the guages with FS9 ones or is there an already made up panel upgrade for this plane? I havn't seen any kind of FS9 conversion for this plane so I just installed the '02 version just as it is.

Once agin, thanks for the skin...it looks great...middle

No issues here, even though it is shown for FS2002. I have had no problems other than scratching my head trying to find those antenna posts maps. I bet I could make it fly in FSX, except for the gauges.
