PT-22 Update

Bomber_12th

SOH-CM-2025
Hey all,

I decided to take a bit of a break from the Mustang production-line today, and finally prepare and then export the PT-22 into FSX for the first time, and here are a few shots of its current state. It has been a long time coming, though it only took a few hours to do. I decided to quickly pop in a pilot figure as well, just to fully understand how small this craft is, and he really fills in the cockpit - more like wearing the aircraft rather than riding in it, which is the best feeling to have as a pilot.

So far I have the main landing gear and prop animated, and next up I will be finishing off the control surfaces, tail gear, and get started on mapping textures - when I can - perhaps I should set aside a few hours every weekend.

I hope you enjoy the following shots!

I am fascinated with the landing gear oleo action on this airplane. I saw a real one at Chino "Planes of Fame" many years ago. Look forward to it's release!:ernae:

Been looking for something like this since admiring a beautiful Fairchild PT- 19 that was "Miss October" on my 2009 calender. This looks like a lovely older sister ...

Thank you everyone for the extremely kind regards! It certainly is a fun 'little' aircraft to build, and hopefully I should get some much needed research done in the coming weeks, with a visit or two to a local example, so that further progress can be made on the interior.

Paul (PutPut), I was rather daunted by the task of doing the gear, though it actually proved to be easier than other items like the engine cylinders, and probably even the bracing wires. Fortunately I had fairly good side profile photos to go by, so that finally when it came time to animate the oleo action, it went rather smoothly since all of the parts involved were fairly much spot on. Since the gear is mounted on the wing at a bit of a horizontal angle, there are latitudinal and longitudinal pivot points at both the top and bottom of the oleo strut - so as the oleo compresses and extends the angle of the strut is allowed to change a bit, while the bottom fork holds the wheel in straight alignment. Once this was all completed, it was certainly a great relief!

The model looks great, especially the engine... but I'm definitely an engine lover ;)

Thank you Huub! After doing the cylinders, I had considered going further even and doing the rest of the engine, and may still in the future, allowing you to pop the forward-most cowling panels off and see what's within. The hardest parts of it are already over. Getting all of the geometry correct over the entirety of the cylinders was the single longest individual task of anything on the aircraft up to this point
