Hiya Folks

Thought I would post a few screenies of the Pearl portion of Rising Sun. The RS add on when released to the community will be a beta edition. It is an enormous undertaking to create a new theater, therefore the seven different theaters will be in varied stages of development.

Presently we have a shortage of folks able to work on airfield creation. So to remedy that airfield drawings and WWII aerial phtographs have been used as .dds textures. Runways will be overlayed onto the textures. In this manner we can lock in the airfield location and runways so that the mission builders can begin to create missions for the theaters.

No it is not Pearl only. There are 7 different geographical theaters or areas of Japanese aggression/invasion. Its not just the PTO there will be a 2nd sino-japanese war theater and the China-Burma portion of the CBI. Hence the title Rising Sun.

Why? CFS3 can not cover those distances in one theater. The possibilities of biplane against 1st generation monoplanes, ac not seen in the eto, and visting areas which are so geographicaly diverse.

You ask great questions! Pearl and the 2 China theaters (avg & sino) will get their own new land class/land cover textures. Philippines and PNG will probably use the existing Solomons textures.

The following are screenies of the pearl LULC map that I have been working on in my spare time from the actual theater creation of mesh, shorelines, water, roads, RRs, and rivers.

I have started with an US govermnet agency landcover base map and have overlayed a 1933 land utilization map of the Hawaii chain. I will probably only do the land utilization for Oahu and have only the land cover for the other islands in the chain.

Bob I know you will think this sounds stupid but I have always wanted someone to create pearl so that it could be placed into the existing cfs3 ocean somewhere. Just like your earlier creation "Wake Island". I like to have everything crammed into one install so I can choose which ever theater I want to fight in. Then again I am a QC junkie so two theaters in one install doesn't present any problems for my game play style. If Hawaii turns out anywhere near as good as Wake did it will be nothing short of awesome! Any chance you will create a sceneDB install for Hawaii?

Actually if Bob is creating Hawaii as an indepenent land mass it could be installed into the existing CFS3 install. I have done it with Wake and a couple other islands he created. However unless he does a sceneDB install it is much more difficult. Placing those islands and buildings by trial and error is extremely tedious and time consuming. It is however worth the effort if you have no other choice.

Sorry

The Rising Sun theaters with the exception of Midway are terrain/mesh theaters. Therefore they can not be placed into an European theater.

The hawaiin chain islands are just too big to create a floating-ship-island. Wake is about the maximum size before strange things start happening to the textures.
