PTO Rising Sun Installation Problem

I have run into the same problem twice when trying to install PTO Rising Sun. I followed the directions in the Rising Sun Install Guide, and the YouTube video as well. Everything looks like is loaded as the installation guide and video suggests

After installing the 7 PTO Rising Sun installs, the Multi CFS3, the two zapper files, I get to the point when I run CFS3config.exe. All of the files look like they have installed correctly, based on what I see and the install guide screenshots. When I try and run PTO Rising Sun using the CFS3.exe file within the PTO Rising Sun folder, I get the flash picture of the stock CFS3 appearing, the CD sound like the program is trying to load with CFS3 disk 2 in the tray, but neither the Pearl Harbor video or PTO Rising Sun loads. I have the feeling, I should not be seeing the stock CF3 picture in this mod when I first double click on the CFS3.exe file, but I do. Since the PTO Rising Sun does not load to make the initial flights as suggested, I have yet to try and load file 9.

I am running XP Pro SP3, and the stock CFS3.1a runs without problems. I am perplexed why I cannot get PTO Rising Sun to load correctly. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Hmm. Did you follow the instructions re closing CFS3config.exe properly? And are you starting cfs3.exe from the new Rising Sun directory?

Yes to both. Closed CF3config.exe via exit, and not the Red X, and ran the CFS3.exe within the CFS3 PTO Rising Sun folder. I installed CFS3 PTO Rising Sun add-on twice with the same result. CFS3.exe will not allow the program to load, even though I hear the CFS3 Disk 2 spinning for about 30 seconds or so, then nothing. Very perplexing as I thought I installed everything per the install guidelines and the You Tube video on the same.

Check you have specified a screen resolution in CFS3config (run it again) but otherwise I'm afraid it sounds like remove and reinstall. If you have to do that, make sure you follow the Rising Sun Installation Guide to the letter for removing an install.

Please check that the Application Data folder was created before a reinstall.
C:\Documents and Settings\*yourname*\Application Data\Microsoft\CFS3 PTO Rising Sun________

Yes, this folder was created where you mentioned. Should I delete this folder before uninstalling, or leave it when I try a re-install again?

For Hairspin, yes, I did did specify the resolution, 1600x900, which is the same as my current computer screen resolution. I thought I did follow the instructions exactly twice, and same result each time.

Thanks

Hi Dutchman,
Yes, this is the folder that MultiCFS3 creates, so that's good.

You ask: "Should I delete this folder before uninstalling, or leave it when I try a re-install again?"
Yes, delete it with the other 2 folders of PTO RS as this is a good way to uninstall rather than running the "uninstaller".

The other two would be the Main folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS3 PTO Rising Sun,
and the one in your "My Documents" folder, CFS3 PTO Rising Sun________. It may have not been created, though.
Delete these three files and the icon shortcuts and you are uninstalled :)

Like Hairyspin says, run CFS3 to the highest resolution that your monitor can take.
Maybe, compare sizes of your downloads to what they should be.
I hope this helps.

Erm, I have remembered (the old cogs a bit sticky: grind, squeak, groannnnn). When running Rising Sun for the first time, like MAW and ETO it takes a while for the runtime .bdp files to be generated. RS doesn't spring snappily to life like Notepad, it may take a few minutes depending on your rig. My old one took ages to start MAW the first time.

Thanks Gentleman for your suggestions. I will try one last time to execute the CFS3.exe file and let it set while we are doing errands today to see if it just takes a while to load. Also, for those who may remember when you first installed PTO Rising Sun, does the stock CFS3 splash screen pop up when you double click on the CFS3.exe in the PTO Rising Sun? Mine does, and I was expected the Rising Sun introductory splash screens based on what I read in the instructions.

If this does not work, then I will delete all of the files as Firestom suggested.

Thanks
