There's a local company here called Intrex that does custom PC's. I just pulled the trigger on the one linked below, but with an upgraded 2TB drive. After taxes, I'm still coming in at just under $2700. I'm looking forward to either running 1080 at butter-smooth frames, or maybe 4K at close to the frames I'm getting now on my laptop.

Thats a nice rig Tom. Very similar to the ABS rig I bought earlier this year. Same case. Mine is Intel 11700 with a Geforce RTX 3060 Ti. I think you'll be using this in 4k. The visuals are so much better.
 
Had a bigger Samsung TV that was only 1080, and at that size, it was actually a little blurry close up. Part of that might be attributed to the age of the TV too - it's an LED flat screen with a digital receiver, but it's old enough that it came before "smart" TV's. In this day of moving away from on-air reception, these new "smart monitors" are beginning to make more sense. They skip the digital TV receiver and save on cost. I've sampled the graphics in 4K on my current setup, but the 1060 card in the laptop comes to a grinding halt at any resolution above 1080 - even as much as 1440 brings it to its knees. My guess is that it just wasn't designed to run anything more than the native resolution of the laptop in any gaming app. I have Windows running at 4K, but I keep the sim's graphics throttled back to 1080 to keep the frames above slideshow level.
 
Nice! I hope it does everything you want it to and more. I'm working on my new PC, using pcpartpicker.com. I hope to order the components in a week or two. This box is getting old. It's like five years old now, which I think is five hundred years old in PC years. ;)
 
Your system is more than capable for MSFS and future-proof, as well, Tom. A nice choice, IMHO.

There's a never-ending battle going on between Intel and AMD, a game of leap frog, if you will. Just curious, why AMD CPU and not i9 13900K ?

I, myself, still am undecided re which brand CPU is currently favored for MSFS. :confused:
 
It really comes down to familiarity. My current system is a Ryzen with an Nvidia graphics chip, and I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Unless the TV is 4HD, it's useless for MSFS. Even then a 55" 4HD TV will tax the best computer system. Folks cannot fathom that 4HD is a screen size 4 times larger than 1920 X 1080, which is considered HD. You should have opted for the 3070 with 16 GB, that gives you 16 cores to work with. For all here with mid to top end systems, watch this YouTube video for some very helpful tweaks. The only thing in the video I would suggest you stay away from is the MSI Afterburner Beta mentioned. It does no good and is just more bloatware. My fps went from 30-35 fps to 50-55 fps after these tweaks, they involve settings in Microsoft, Nvidia Control Panel, and MSFS.

In addition, if you have an Nvidia RTX graphics card, once in MSFS Instant Pause the sim, and click ALT+F3 to bring up the Nvidia filters. There are many that can make that warm color in the default settings of MSFS look much better, just play with them to your liking. The three most likely to aid you are Color, Detail, and Brightness and Contrast; there is even a Black & White filter. To use the filters, hit the + where it says Add Filter and scroll down. Each filter has separate scroll down settings. To get to them, click the down arrow to the right of the filter selected.

It is my recommendation if you have an extra computer, laptop or tablet, that you view this video tutorial on it in lieu of your computer, so you will not have to be going back and forth and having too many windows open on your PC. That way you can pause the tutorial and do your settings as you go. It's a long process, will take you an hour, so give yourself some time. the tutorial itself is 48 minutes long. But trust me, this fellow know his stuff.

Just an example screenshot of what the tweaks above did for my system. I have pretty much the same set up as what Tom ordered, except I have a RTX3070 with 16 GB in lieu of 8 and an Intel i7-7000 with 4.2 GB core processor.

I already went over my intended budget with what I have, including the upgrade to a 2TB C: drive. If this rig will reach 50+ at 1080 or ~30 at 4K, I'll be happy.
 
Finally picked it up this morning! Got 'er up and running, Chrome installed and synched, etc. Need to find some personalization settings to get it looking the way I like, but so far so good. After that, comes the daunting task of installing the sim.

The biggest part of the sim is "fs-base-cgl" - that started downloading at 1804. It's now 2100 and that folder is still downloading. The compressed files stacked up waiting to decompress are ~60GB and still loading!
 
2122 - finally finished. Gonna let 'er chill the rest of the evening and get the Content Manager stuff in tomorrow.
 
OK... I haven't had time to fly yet, but I did finally get my Community folder reloaded and loaded up the Kodiak for frame testing. In full 4K, I now get about the same frames as I was getting with the laptop. Move back to 1080, and the frames double - maybe more. In 1440, it's about in the middle.

I still need to get into the Content Manager and make sure that everything I own is downloaded. I'll probably let that run while I get some laundry folded and another load washing...
