Purchasing older Sim Engine Code from MS

Its been years now since previous editions of Sim game engine code were used, such as CFS2, CFS3, and FS9.

If MS is not doing so well, perhaps negotiations for licensing out the sim code might be favourable to MS now. They could license the code to game studios and make money without the fear of having a inhouse team. Groups that have wanted to make their own CFS games could now do so, and MS need only collect royalties on such endeavors.

Perhaps this could be a good thing.

Perhaps this could even mean Aces could regroup and create their own outside gaming studio, license the FSX sim engine, and continue on with their work, and only have to worry about paying MS royalties for the existing game code instead of paying for a inhouse department to have it.

I for one would LOVE to get ahold of (lease) the FS9 code and create a couple of my own sims.

MS is losing money in huge amounts on a daily basis. This would help them to start turning the tide, and stop the water leaks from sinking their ship. This could bring in tremendous amount of money for them at no investment. Sort of like 'renting out the equipment'. Just sit there and say thank you, thank you, thank you.... put the money in the MS bank account....

As much as I'd like to see the source code for CFS2 bought ..released...whatever, just don't think they ever will.

The way I've heard it, parts of older sims are used in the newer ones. So if say the code for cfs2 was released, they'd be givin part of FSX away too, an I just don't see that happenin
 
yeah time and again older FS hands in here will say 'try this - it worked in FS9 or whatever' and sure enough the same tweak to the same file in FSX would work half the time so that much appears to be true, at least in this case.

I really don't think there needs to be so much concern just yet about the future of PC flight simulation though...

I don't think going back to old code will be necessary because stuff like this has a way of sorting itself given time.
 
Not that someone else taking the code and creating something doesn't sound peachy, Bill, but your facts are way off. From the Reuter's story on the January earnings announcement:
Microsoft posted a profit of $4.17 billion, or 47 cents per share, in its fiscal second quarter ended December 31, versus a profit of $4.71 billion, or 50 cents per share, a year earlier.

Profit is down to a mere $4.17 billion. Never mind that that profit beats the GDP of some smaller countries, the idiocy of how Wall Street works considers anything that's not exponential growth to be failure. Never mind that exponential growth can never be maintained in any industry...

Anyway, even the CFS3 code is ancient by gaming standards today. Anyone wanting to create a new sim would be better served by writing code from scratch to take advantage of multiple cores, programmable shaders, and all that other 21st Century technology.
 
OK.. well, why did they get rid of so many employees and cancel/shut down Aces studios?

Why are they down so huge from their normal stock earnings and profits?

Why are their sales down so low?

to keep the profit margin above 4 bill most likely, there profit for the last quater might have been less then expected, but they are still makeing over 4 bill in profit, which means they aint looseing any money ;)

JUST to please Wallstreet stock analysts and stock owners, Bill. The very concept that has now crippled America's, and indeed, the world's economy by inflating it superficially all these past years. :faint:

There you go. The BDG have been around years, and of your willing to show an interest then were willing to help a little.

PS, BOB1 soruce has been out for years. Its an FS engine with the current aim at combat, but with source that means squat as you got the keys to the engine, turn it into a first person shooter if you want!

The question isn't getting source its having the time and manpower. Here is how far BOB has come though after years and years of work and a 2nd release;

My thoughts on the FS9 code were that the autogen models could be switched out, textures updated. Simple overhaul and add some city buildings.

PC12 (Paul Lange) reported in his blog weeks ago that ACES had asked about the possibility of negotiating some sort of deal...

...and were turned down in no uncertain terms. :gossip:

Also, in case you've somehow missed the news, Paul Lange and a few other ex-ACES are assembling a new team, which "may" be the next step in the FS franchise...
 
Playing around with source code is always the key to something big.

Just look at EECH/EEAH...

Hey Bill, you watch "New Aces", if you want to keep the name, come out sooner than you think.........Brand new coding is what is needed for a real New Sim....:monkies:
 
LOL, good luck. It took my buddies many years to wrestle the obsolete 'Orion Pirates' code from a bankrupt 'interplay' so I doubt MS would give it up without SUBSTANTIAL compensation.
