Q ETO 1.3 Free Flight, intercept, .....

Emile

Charter Member 2015
Hello,

I have loaded the TK_PBY5A-Hornel aircraft in my new ETO 1.3 , when I request a free flight with this aircraft in ERA 1 (I did not try other ERAs) the game crashes.

What is the rule to follow to run Free flight, intercept, .... in ETO 1.3 ? Is there a specific ERA to select? Different for different aircrafts? :isadizzy:
Thanks in advance

Hello, These are the first aircrafts I try to install in ETO 1.3. The Catalinas Norvegian and Hornell. the Pylons are in the Pylon folder (where already present) and the weapons are in the weapons folder (was already present). I have tested with the sound of a "standard" ETO aircraft and still the ETO 1.3 crashes.

FYI ETO 1.3 works like a charm without these aircrafts.

This is a puzzler. They should slip into ETO like a hand into a glove. The weapons and pylons supplied are for non-ETO people. I've just dropped the two into my clean test install 1.3 and they fly wth no problems.

Eras don't affect your aircraft; you can fly a 262 in 1936 as far as QC/Free flight are concerned.

I can't see where the problem might lie, so to be honest, I'd delete them both, download them again and try again. Before you do, though, just look in the folders and see if a .bdp file is generated. That might help to see what the problem might be.

:kilroy:Emile, what do you mean by "crashes"?

Under the Quick Combat tab, you have several choices: Free Flight, Dogfight, Intercept, Escort, and Ground attack.

No matter which of these you select, you have to select everything needed on the left, as well, such as Aircraft, Location, and Pilot for Free Flight, or the addition of Skill and Fighter for Dogfight.

If any of these choices are left blank when you click FLY, the game will crash.

Also, if you switch Eras, please take a close look at Location. If you were at a particular airfield in one Era, the same field may not even exist in the new Era.

If the Location window on the left side of the screen contains several lower-case letters and as many as four digits, with no spaces, appearing as one word, DO NOT CLICK FLY! This means that no airfield has been chosen. Simply select an airfield before clicking FLY.

I hope this helps.:d

Good Morning,
Answer to the questions :
Yes a .bdp is generated,
Yes I have made all needed selections on the left Free Flight, aircraft, location, pilot,
location is (in this test) Great Britain, RNAS lie-on-sole. Start position is at 10000ft, summer, morning, Calai Weather.

This test is with the Norvegian version .
See attached ; Crash to the desktop.

Thanks for helping

That looks like Vista... Can't help further, I'm afraid, if it's a problem with your OS. Shouldn't be, though.

The generation on a bdp file means that the xdp is not corrupt. If the aircraft.cfg were corrupt, it would tell you at the outset while you're waiting for the sim to load. If the model file were corrupt, you'd get the upside-down smiley, at least most of the time...

Go back to what I said - delete the lot, including pylons etc, and re-download and reinstall.

I've found what the problem is. I flew the Hornell in my vanilla 1.3 install and it crashed to desktop after it flew once ok. So I thought it feels like our old chesnut the sound file.

The sound file was aliased incorrectly for ETO 1.3. I hadn't flown them in 1.3. until now. In my 1.2 install I had two folders for engine sounds. I think that Ted had created one especially for his aircraft, Eng_sounds to which the Cats were aliased to as well as the ETO DR_Engine_Sounds. 1.3 does not have Ted's folder So I've copied the ETO 1.3 Cats sound file aliased to DR_Engine_sounds and it works in the Hornell and Norwegian. Copy this into the aircraft sounds folder and you should be good to go. I'll post this on SOH.

This issue may affect other aiecraft for which Ted supplied engines sounds for. So I'm copying over the Eng_sounds folder as aircraft like the Ju 290's were done this way.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
