Query: Default aircraft in FSX

OleBoy

Charter Member 2015
Is it safe to remove all the default aircraft in FSX, aside from the Cessna 182 so I can get rid of them?

There is no 182 in default FSX.

Is storage space at a premium? Or what is it that you're trying to achieve?

The 182 is stock for FS2004. In either sim you can get rid of any aircraft you want BUT, if any aircraft you add reference ANY sound or panel or _____ (fill in the blanks) folder, you will be out of luck!!

Regards, Mike Mann

If storage space is not the problem and you just want to remove them from your aircraft menu, open the aircraft .cfg files and for each livery change the panel entry to panel=off. That way, if any other aircraft aliases the default sound or whatever it will still be there...

I have often thought about it, but if you remove them and decide that you want to re-fly some of the misssions, you have to change the aircraft in them. I lost the Acceleration P-51 one time, and could no longer fly any of the default P-51 racing missions. It really depends on how you fly in FSX.

True. I don't have much installed. So I'll save the sound files and add them as needed.
.....Good info. Thanks for mentioning that.

I've removed the default AI flight plans and AI only aircraft without any regrets.

You might want to save any gauge and sound files when removing the default flyable ones 'though.

Thanks for the tips. I would hate to mess things up and have to reinstall.

I was under the impression that the AI flight plans used the default planes as "AI". Are there separate AI planes used here, in lieu of the flyable default planes?

No. They're more enhancing the airplane variety on the airports. I think it's the DH-8-100, the MD-83 and one or two more that are exclusively for AI use.
