Question About Dbolt's F4U1A Corsair

Hi all,

I downloaded and installed Dbolt's F4U1A Corsair and was wondering how do I use the decals for older repaints that do not have the stars painted directly onto the wings?

Thanks for your help,

TW

T-willy, you can either copy/paste them directly onto the older bitmaps from another bird using any paint program or you can copy decal_insignia_T0.bmp and decal_insignia_d0.bmp from the main TEXTURE folder into the individual texture folders of the older repaints, once you've converted their textures over to Dbolt's model.

Although all repaints for the Dbolt hog contain insignias (thank you skinners), the Dbolt hog is still the product of the MS stocker and therefore the mdl still contains texture calls for the aforementioned decal bmp's. By dropping these directly into the texture folders of the models, the sim can locate them easier and apply them when the model is loaded.

Hi Bearcat,

Ok, I went to the main texture folder, found, and copied said decal_insignia_T0 and decal_insignia_D0 to the stock F4U1A_Corsair texture folder, started CFS2, went to Free Flight, and selected the Corsair, but the wing decals didn't show. So I used Martin Wright's DXTBmp program and converted just the decal_insignia_T0 to Extended 16 bit 565 and they still didn't show. From what I've done so far, can you point out where I took a wrong turn?

Thanks,

TW

From DBolt's readme.txt for the F4U-1A

"There are no more decals for the insignias, they are painted directly in the texture now."

Although I see the decal texture references are still in the mdl file I don't think they are used .

Ok...i guess its gonna be a copy/paste job. The upside is you won't have to extract the insignias from another model - just cut them out of the decal_insignia files and overlay them on your old bmp's.
