question about "fourth wheel"

The answer to this is probably obvious, but....

In Bob Chicilo's updates, he always says something about "adding the fourth wheel." What's that mean?

On a lot of models there are twin wheel bogies, especially on many Navy jet nose gear.

Often the original cfg lists just one contact point per gear, so he relocates the contact points so there is one for each individual tire.

I'm sure there's a good reason to do that, but I'm not sure what it is.

The effects that come off the tires (dirt, water spray, etc.) looks nicer if they come off both tires as opposed to the general area of the tires, or one tire in the set. Not sure if there is a downside with respect to suspension stiffness or traction.
