heyguys,

quick question.. how can i have my propdisk call up the default texture located in the props folder?

kind of like in cfs2 how if you replaced the one prop texture in the texture folder, all the props for the default allied planes changed also... only i'd like to have this trick work in FS9...

also, if this work, can i still have a separate glass texture for the canopy, or is it going to fuzz the same as if i had my own prop texture?

im using FSDS3 btw

thanks!

ps, how can i animate a free castoring tail wheel?

Hi
Fs9 will first look in the aircraft texture folder for a texture,if it cant find it there it will look in the fs9/texture folder.if your talking about the textures form the scenery/props/texture folder.then just copy the one you need to your aircraft/texture folder :)
In fsx you can create a texture.cfg to tell fsx where to find global textures

yeah i know i can copy it, thats what i usually do, but this time i kinda wanna have themodel call up the texture from the texture/props folder to see if it will let me have a separate texture for the canopy glass, how can i do that?

Hi Mate
You lost me :) think your either trying to do something I dont understand or your missing some info ;)

If you want a separate glass texture just make one for the glass and one for the prop
if you want to keep it all in one texture then you will have to forgo the reflective glass or the transparent textured prop
cheers

sorry Wozza, it's the end of the semester for me and ive been writing too many papers so my elloquence is not the best haha

i use FSDS3, and last time i tried to have a textured prop and reflective glass it didnt work, i could only have one or the other... so i figured what if i were to have the prop/propdisk call up the default prop texture from its default location in the texture/props folder? would this fix my problem?

i cant test my model in the sim as i cant have it installed any more (my comp wont run FS9 no more :( )

im not too savyy with textures are stuff so puting all the stuff (glass, propdisk and regular model reflective textures) into one sheet is a little too complex for me because of the alpha, so i dont know what to do... i wanna have both, a textured prop/propdisk AND a reflective glass canopy... the canopy is a bubble so its only the one part using the texture.

does this help?

thanks a lot man!

Hi
What sort of problem did you have when doing the glass and prop textures?

You should just make a small texture say 256X256 call it glass_T.bmp
give it a light to mild gray alpha channel and apply it to your canopy
then make a prop.bmp (no T modifier in the name)
apply that to the blurred prop part.

Next go into the root folder of fsds3 and find a file called MakeMdlAircraftParms.txt rename it to MakeMdlAircraftParms.bsk
if you havnt done so already, now when you compile to fs9 you will get the makemdl program pop up.You can they verify that the correct options are being sent to it eg hasreflectivetextures ect ect

Nice aircraft btw ;)

Its a better idea to make the prop texture and the glass texture on different sheets. You should have not troubles then.

As for your castoring wheel question pop over to the ffds forums and do a search on c_wheel in the main area

Hey Chris,

Yeah thats hwati used to do until i upgraded to FSDS3 and it started giving me grief... the transparency on the propdisk wouldnt show, and if it did, the bit that was suposed to be transparent was mirror like and thebit that was suposed to be the blurred prop was transparent... i use a 'stock' propdisk texture of my own in all my models, so it wa sa matter of the proggy... hopefully this time it wont give me a hard time haha
