Ok, you got me curious now. I am going to get Image tool and check it out. Thanks Joe!

Now, I have a question for the aircraft files "innards" gurus... I found the Osprey conversion Bob Cichilo made for FS9 or FSX (not sure)... and decided to "repaint the textures with a bit more detail and finesse" - nothing wrong with the textures albeit their being a bit "rustic".... (some of us can paint... others can do more sophisticated technical things... to each from each I say...helping each other and those others who might enjoy ouI am not too technically gr work) ifted... but can help with painting textures... Here are the textures (only jpg copies to economize space) I have reworked... they are 4X the originals... (same proportions)... and HERE IS THE QUESTION... Is there a way to make the model accept these large textures and thereby derive a nicer looking effect?

I got an answer already... partly from someone who told me the textures could go up to 1 meg and be accepted by FS9 and the model, so I just used the large bmp and voila' they work fine... In case anyone cares to know... it is an easy way to repaint textures in finer detail... enlarge the originals like this model 4X... work them in 8bit color... and then reduce to 256 colors and they look just like the jpg I posted above as an example... good detail... no jagged lines, etc.
I hereby declare this thread a moot point...
Cheers everyone

Actually, FS9 can handle texture files larger than 1meg....a 1024 by 1024 texture file in 32-Bit DXT888-8 is 4 meg on the nose without mip maps, 5.33megs with mip maps. And FS9 accepts these just fine. I didn't think that FS9 would use anything larger than 1024 by 1024 pixels. OBIO
