Question on the WBS P-51D

WarHorse47

SOH-CM-2024
I've been doing a lot of flying recently with the WBS P-51D Restored 2 aircraft, and just noticed that the view for the "Rear Seat" is not functioning. In other words when I cycle through the interior views the first view is for the Panel Center, although the first Camera Definition listed is for the "Rear Seat."

[CameraDefinition.001]
Title = "Rear Seat"
Guid = {195EAB58-9E4A-1E2A-A34C-A8D9D948F078}
Origin = Virtual Cockpit
MomentumEffect = Yes
SnapPbhAdjust = Swivel
SnapPbhReturn = False
PanPbhAdjust = Swivel
PanPbhReturn = False
Track = None
ShowAxis = FALSE
AllowZoom = TRUE
InitialZoom = 0.55
SmoothZoomTime = 2.0
ZoomPanScalar = 1.0
ShowWeather = Yes
XyzAdjust = TRUE
ShowLensFlare=FALSE
Category = Cockpit
PitchPanRate=20
HeadingPanRate=60
CycleHidden=Yes
InitialXyz=0, 0.039, -0.99
InitialPbh=15.5, 0, 0

Is there something I need to do to activate this view?

Thanks in advance

Hey WH,

Simply remove the "CycleHidden=Yes" line and it will work. We provided it as an optional view, as with a few of the models (stock cockpits) this view wouldn't be acceptable - but, of course, with the dual seat versions, your viewpoint will immediately be shifted to the backseat POV.

The addition of the second seat is one of the oldest and most common modifications of civilian-owned P-51D's. There isn't a civilian P-51D out there without a second seat in back, unless it has been restored to absolute stock condition (in which case it would also be far more stock in other ways, such as not being fitted with a permanent GPS, auto pilot, or other sophisticated avionics), or its been specially built for racing (in which case the cockpit is no longer the same either). Even some very stock restorations have a back seat - as most Mustang owners state, it would be really difficult to own one and not be able to share the experience of flying in one with friends, family, and others. Some even have dual controls within them, not being TF-51D's, but rather 'light' dual controls squeezed into the cockpit space of a standard P-51D. Ezell Aviation has sold kits to Mustang rebuilders and owners which allow this to happen, and I believe there is something around 10-15 examples flying today that are fitted with dual controls of some kind, in a standard P-51D airframe. One of these is of course "Daddy's Girl", as inlcuded in "Restored Part 2" - the rear controls and gauges duplicated to exactly match the real aircraft, with the rudder pedal assembly mounted under the front seat, the rudder pedals on either side of the seat - the only P-51 for any flight sim out there, in which you have a second set of controls.

Well. That was exciting.

I just completed a short flight from the back seat of "Daddy's Girl" that included a cold start and taxi. A real challenge getting centered on the taxiway and runway. Fortunately, there was no pilot in the front seat so I cheated a little and used the front instruments. Only thing I might change is the pan rate for looking around. Think I need an adult beverage after that flight.

On a related subject, maybe some day a repaint will show up for this two seater... :icon_lol:

Of course, the addition of a jump seat to "Precious Metal", sometime this fall...should be very interesting!

Nice screens as always John!
