Question re: SweetFX and enviro-bloom

Greetings all, I'm back in the ether after having the new E: drive installed after it crashed fatally last week. Shop was able to clone everything onto the new one from the old one, I'm thankful for that.

E drive has the original FS9 installation on it, which I am transferring aircraft from to help get its size down and speed up its loading time. I got the machine back yesterday. In the past that FS9 installation would start but would never go above 77% when loading a flight (right where weather is being loaded on my sim). Yesterday, on a whim, I decided to start FS9 on E and lo and behold it actually opened and even loaded a flight for me using the default Cessna 172. I was then able to load a Capt Sim C-130 which appeared normally, all gauges and pop-ups where they belong, props and wheels/tires where they belonged. I noted, however, the window description that appears in the upper right hand corner of the screen when views are switched appeared to be blurry, and in addition the display on the screen got progressively darker as time went on. Eventually I lost the sim and had to shut it down.

I've seen that darkening effect before with SweetFX and enviro-bloom in my copies of FS9 on E drive. That program causes no problems with those versions of the sim, there is a slight bright "hazing" of the display that can be instantly cured with Shift+F12 and does not reappear and those keystrokes cause the display image to sharpen considerably. I am beginning to think the problem with just this one version of FS9 refusing to run may have to do with something related to graphics display, and may not be the fault of a downloaded third-party aircraft or scenery item.

For now I am willing to entertain completely shutting down SweetFX and enviro-bloom, as this may return the sim to me. Does anyone know how to disable those programs?

I think all you have to do is remove the dll (I forgot the name of it (sweetfx.dll, maybe?)) from the modules directory, i think. ymmv.

Hi,

I got home and had a look at an actual install. The files are in the same directory as the fs9.exe directory (the root flight sim directory) and the files related to it are shader.fx, injector.ini d3d9.* and dxgi.*. Im sorry for the incomplete info earlier.

OK, I'll look those up and see about a removal and its effects.

Heading for the Bahamas for five days tomorrow via cruise ship. Something the wife set up a few months ago. For once this trip won't be on something painted grey, and there won't be any files or weapon to lug along!
