Question re texture folder in Effects folder

Hi All,

I have a quick question. I'm manually moving files from effects/texture folder from aircraft and there's a Thumbs.db file in there. When I try to move it to the effects folder in FS, it asks me if I want to move/replace, don't move or move but keep both files.

I normally just go with the 'newer' file and call it a day, but these two Thumbs.db files are different sizes, so now I'm wondering if they're different.

I wasn't aware of a Thumbs.db file in the effects/texture folder.

Note sure which option to choose? Please help?

Delete both files...Windows will create a new one. I hate those thumb.db files......total waste of space.

This issue was a bit of a hassle when working with classified data, since every file has to be accounted for when making CDs. We made Windows stop making those files somehow, but that was Windows XP. I found this for doing the same with Windows 7, and it works. No moare thumbs.db files!

In Windows XP it was a lot easier, just uncheck the "do not cache thumbnails" option under folder options > View. But that option does not exist in the Windows 7 version.

Oh, okay, so I'll just delete both. They don't affect the game itself in anyway then?

No effect on the game at all. The only time a thumbs.db file comes into play is when you view the files in a picture folder in a thumbnail view like "Large Icons" in W7. The .db file caches the thumbnails for faster display. If you delete the file, Windows will end up rebuilding another one - probably the next time you view the thumbails. Without that file, Windows has to open each file in the background to generate a thumbnail. In a folder with several hundred images, that can take several seconds and cause a temporary slowdown while it's happening.
