Question regarding AI

What a change, or .........careful what you wish for. Just DL the latest patch, and went for a flight.

QC me in a DVII with 3 others, against 4 Brit's flying Sop Camels. Settings at Veteran for all flyers, Flak at low and rookie.

I had a most difficult time emulating the Camels flight path. It seemed they were out turning my craft, and for me to follow, I stalled it, ( Seen in the Review notes). When they took out the other blokes, it had me against 3. Couldn't shake them, out turn, out climb them, and so it was a GG method, a dirt nap, with a few hundred rounds of lead.

Is the AI too good of a thing?

Without being a wimp, is the solution to set the AI to Rookie?

I am surmising it is mostly fuel load that allows the AI to turn on a dime?

In the theatre of WWI, it was quite evident from the research I have done, for you to " get out of a bad mix up" and leave. So this leads to my next question which is; Is this a QC thing, or are you unable to shirk your opponent in either QC or Campaign?

It is truly a MAGNIFICIENT SIM.

My main problem (and I accept that it's probably something I'm doing wrong) is that when my lead goes full bore, I can't keep up with him.

The only other thing is that when my lead starts to make a shallow dive for airfield approach or whatever, I can hear his engine going, but I have to throttle all the way back and keep it there, listening to my engine putt putt putter and constantly flying left and right and applying rudder like crazy just to brake and not overfly my lead. Even when I've slowed down enough, I can't level out to follow or I'll overshoot despite having throttle all the way back.

And hell yeah, it's a fantastic, gorgeous, immersive sim. Saving up for new compute and force feedback JS just for this thing.

I tested two Camels vs two Alb DVs in QC, both Albs on rookie first, with my wingie also rookie.

The rookie Albs were good, but I managed to get both, though I lost my wingie.

Next I put the Albs on ace, wingie still on rookie. I pasted the crap out of one Alb, then left him for dead and went after the other. Put him down and saw my wingie finishing off the other.

Not even an ace Alb should be a match for a Camel, and so it was. The AI seemed about spot-on to me.

In my campaign we just had four DH2s vs four Alb DIIs and we were pasted. And again, it 'felt' spot-on. AI were flying the DIIs perfectly and as one would expect a real pilot to fly them. Flying big circles around our DHs, dipping in to take a shot and climbing out again. We could barely touch them, the occasional snap-shot only.

So, so far I'd say the AI is exactly where it should be. :)
