Questions From a Non Savy User

Somewhat new to this forum, been "lurking" on and off for awhile. Just fired up CFS3 after a long downtime, really trying to get back into it. My questions are I recently loaded it into a new windows 7 PC, transferrred the old files from the old computer and everything seemed to run fine. Made sure I still had the 3.1 update, added Firepower, and other add-ons from here and from my old files (PC). Now that I'm reaquainted with flying I jumped back into some campaign flying I had saved. I can resume an old campaign from all 3 nationalities, fly and advance with the greatest of ease, while drooling at the great new graphics on the new PC. My problem is when it's time to quit, I can save my progress and exit, but when I come back the campaign won't re-load where I left off. In fact with the animation going when I click what date to resume, my aircraft disappears leaving my pilot standing next to the hanger. This only happens to any mission I saved on the new PC, I can still re-open a transferred campaign and fly no problems, it just won't save campaign progress on the Windows 7 version. All other flying works fine, it just seems to be campaigns affected.

The other question is I downloaded some missions from here, Misquito Gestapo raid, Devine Wind missions. When I try and load them I get "unrecognized aircraft", or unrecognized country" and the game completely closes.

So I'm wondering do I need to do a complete re-install and use the "Windows 7 Install Fix" thread, or is there another issue going on? If I do the 7 Install Fix will that require me to re-do all the add-ons? Basically start from scratch? Apologies for the long post and indepth questions, just getting furstrated, so coming to the experts, thanks in advance.

I'm not a campaign guy, so can't help there. As for the missions, did you check the readme for required aircraft? Many missions use add-on aircraft rather than stock ones and the mission won't work unless you have it. So even if the mission uses a Mosquito IV for instance, and you have one, if it's a different repaint of the same aircraft it won't go. I hope that answers your question.

Hi!

I have XP so can't help with issues you are experiencing with the campaign.

With the missions you are missing an item(s) that the creator has included but are not in your install. If there's a readme they may be listed but some folks sometimes forget that what they've written in is not stock.

What you can do is to open the mission.xml file with 'Notepad' and read through and try to determine what's in it that you haven't got. If it's an aircraft or vehicle you could replace the entry with something that you do have.

This needs to be the .m3d model name. eg. if it has an aircraft entry "BoB_110c4b_ER210" which isn't listed in your aircraft folder change it to one that you do have such as "ju_88c_6".

I suspect this is to do with the User Access Control, or UAC; it's a real pain in Win7. Turn its setting down - or off! - when flying campaigns and your settings should save okay. I've used Win7 since it came out and leave the UAC permanently off: you'll find it under System and Security - Action Centre in Control Panel.
