Quick combat corrupted file message

highpockets

SOH-CM-2025
Happy Easter to all.
OK, I forgot what the problem can be when the A/C you try to fly in QC gives you a corrupted or file missing screen. None of the A/C I installed in my CBI will let me fly quick combat. Someone get me restarted.
Thanks

HP: How many planes (including repaints) do you have in your active Aircraft folder? Does the same thing happen in Free Flight? Check for aliased sound folders.

I had a problem like that. I had modified a "Ship" folder and after I deleted the modified folder the problem went away.

Shadow Wolf 07, I think skins may be the problem. Dummy did not create a new, clean install for my CBI ( which I know better), I just copied and pasted my PTO theater and changed the name, .exe, etc but all the A/C files in it plus those I added all are in there. I suspected that when I realized what I had done and also had MANY duplicates in the mdlnames.txt file. :banghead:
Major senior moment.
Stuart277 and Fibber helped me fix mdlnames.txt, now to work on the A/C not needed in this theater.

Any other ideas? I reduced my aircraft count to around 50. check my ship files to make sure I had no empty folders. Even my standard aircraft will not fly QC and I can only get one A/C ( Vildebeast) in the CBI missions install to fly missions. Guess I am going to have to do a clean install and start all over.:frown:

Did you check the ships folders to insure that you have sound & panel folders and that the main folder, cfg.(SHIP) name, model & Dp files are all named the same?

How about the QC file?

Hi highpockets!

Have you checked that your QC file, stored in CFS2 root \QUICKCOMBAT folder, has the correct aircraft folder names in it? I suspect sound or panel aliasing is not your problem, since, if you had an incorrect aliasing, you shouldn't be able to see such aircrafts in Free Flight either. When there are neither valid panels nor sound files, aircrafts simply do not show up, while CFS2 runs normally.

I am saying this because the QC file is the main culprit for QC problems and error messages, after the exceeded limit of aircrafts installed. The latter is the primary cause of the obnoxious, and misleading, message we get after we install that only aircraft that exceeds CFS2 limit, which in my pc variates from 100 to 110 planes. I never understood why that number variates according to which install (I have a multi-theatre install) I am flying in at any given moment.

There isn't any corrupt file/folder, only one aircraft too many in CFS2 root \AIRCRAFT folder, MB goes beserk and cannot generate a Quick Combat mission. Simply removing that extra plane resolves the problem.
But the other snafu, that I incurred in several times when I was still a CFS2 and multi/install rookie, was deleting/renaming addon aircraft folders that were listed inside the QC list file, forgetting to edit the QC file to reflect the change. CFS2 never forgave me for overlooking this detail. In both cases you will not only be unable to fly Quick Combat, but your Mission Builder and none of your installed missions/campaings will work at all.

If you have an aircraft folder name listed in the QC file and such folder is not in CFS2 root \AIRCRAFT, maybe deleted for cleanup or simply renamed, QC starts having fits and sending all kinds of error messages, most of them not pointing to the actual problem and very confusing as to what to do next to cure it. Sometimes a simple typo broke all hell loose!
This is also the main problem in removing stock aircrafts that do not belong to dedicated theatre installs, like Japanese planes in Europe. Only removing them from the QC file as well ensures a clean, fully-functioning war theatre install.

A careful check that all aircrafts listed in the QC file were also present in CFS2 root \AIRCRAFT, and their folder names were spelled exactly the same in both places, always cured the problem for me and my CFS2 went back purring like a well fed kitten.

I hope this helps pinpointing the cause of your problem.

Cheers!

I did check all the ship folders and found one that had empty sound and panel folder but no others and still the same problem. I will see what I can find using kelticheart's suggestions later this week
Thanks guys.
I will reply here when I find the issue. Maybe it will help someone else.

I don't think any in there is what Fibber was referring to. I will muddle through to see what issues I can find in my new theater install.
Thanks

I'm still betting on the SHIPS folder. It is far less tolerant of glitches in my experience. Just in case you haven't tried it yet, back up your SHIPS folder by renaming it then create a new one & place a couple of the stock CFS2ers in it. If the games loads OK then that means that the problem is indeed ship related. If that is the case, add ships a few at a time from the backup file starting the game between each addition to check for the QC message. Kind of a PITA but it works. You can also do the same with the AIRCRAFT folder if necessary. I've done this on a number of occasions.

Found one issue that one of the original aircraft somehow got deleted from the original PTO install I did. See what happens when you don't do a clean install:banghead:
I still have some other issues, maybe now in the ships but piece by piece I intend to find the problem or problems! Discovered some texure issues as well in the QC for some of my new installed A/C, but easy to fix. If anyone is interested, stay tuned over the next few days.

CBI up and running

Fibber
I am up and running finally.
Thanks for the MDL repair zip. The link I found was broken. I had used this sometime ago and lost it when I changed computers. Ran it and found no issues.
Here is the final diagnosis of my new install and the problems found:
One missing stock A/C
Buffalo_MK I improperly built
That got me running with a few glitches in the library with my "goofs" the problem.
All better now. Biggest problem was the missing A/C. How that got deleted, who knows? Once that was fixed, the proper rebuild of the Buffalo and placing the missing objects, etc in their proper place did the trick.
Much thanks to all who participated in my search for a solution.
NEXT TIME SLOW AND CAREFULL STEP BY STEP PROCESS!

...One missing stock A/C.....Biggest problem was the missing A/C.....

Good for you you're back in business with CFS2, highpockets!

Was the missing stock A/C listed in the QC file? If the answer is yes, there was your main culprit!

Cheers!
