Radar Antennae

I have just dropped a set of radar antennae into the upload queue. They were designed to be used with the VN PBY but I am sure that you will find other uses for them.

I have included the FSDS source so that anyone who wants to can improve them. I have tried to give them several LODs to minimize frame rate impact but it is my first try so I have no idea if I did it right.

Hi Gavin, many thanks for the antennae, I'm trying to re-jig the DP now. I visited the South Island of NZ in April and was blown away by the scenery, I took 2 1/2 weeks to see about half of it and cant wait to go back. The people are warm and friendly and welcoming, if you ever find yourself down under dont miss the opportunity. Enough of the testemonial :redf:, any chance of doing some Brit ASV antennae for the Beaufort? :jump:
 
Well they can certainly be put under the wings of Stuart Greens Sunderland. Would you consider doing the 'Stickleback' ones for the fuselage too? All these can be put on Wimpeys and Whitleys as well.
 
Let me investigate the Stickleback (shouldn't be too hard).

Watchdog - you should be able to use the antennas on brit aircraft as well, what was so different about the Beauforts ASV, from the (small) image attached it looks like they used something that can be approximated by the "early war" antenna?

I have attached an image of a Hudson with ASV radar. You should be able to use the "mid war" antennae for this.

The terms "early, mid and late war" were my convenient handles. In reality there were dozens of different antennae used as the Allies (not to mention the Germans & Japanese) experimented to find the best approach and as the technology got better.

Is this what you were looking for?
It isn't perfect - the stickleback on the real Sunderland was sloped to match the line of the rear fuselage and there should be receiving antenae mounted on the side of the fuselage.

Still work in progress.

The kind of antennae I was interested in are like those Pstrany did on the Hudsons, the small ones mounted horizontally on the fuselage as in the pics

Merlin2 did put some side mounted radar units on his Mk8 Beaufort but they're in the mdl.
Thanks for the PBY antennae Gavin. They look great and don't conflict with the depth charges in the DP I have. BTW I disagree about the late war radome...I think it looks great!

Watchdog - I will see about the side mounting antennae. They look complicated and I am new to FSDS.

Here's an image of the Stickleback and the underwing receiving antennae installed on KM's Liberator.

Time to take a flight out of Iceland to hunt TR's U-Boat (here little u-boat, here little u-boat - I have a nice surprise for you).
 
They certainly fit the bill gavin! the only other I can think of is the one that goes on the nose. Unfortunately the attachment varies from aircraft to aircraft:isadizzy:

The Sunderlands' was aft of the cockpit, the early Lib and Fortress stuck it out just above the bombaimers window. On the Whitley and Wimpey they were under the nose.
