RAF Gibraltar 1943

Gibraltar airfield 1943

This is just the airfield, not the surounding area. you guys probably have differnt Gib scenery
add-ons, but i just use Rumpa's CFS2 mesh which makes the rock pretty good, other than that i
just have stock scenery for the area. i may enhance the docks, but not just yet :)

You'll need these 3 installed, but im guessing you have them in already

2,RAF Manston 1944

Captain Kurt made up some very nice British airfield vehicles for CFS2, and he very
kindly alowed me to make up a libaray bgl for FS9 which i'll be using a lot
in the future. Thanks Captain

Ive made a traffic file, but im using Shessi's Handley Page Halifax GRII.
Not an Ai aircraft, but im only using about 7 and works perfectly fine in my
install. I could have used John Youngs CC B24, but the Halifax is more appropriate
for Gib.
You also need "jai_c-47.zip" by JAI, Michael Pearson, found at Avsim

merry x-mas everyone

Very nice, and very interesting. :ernaehrung004:

You're using a VFS2 mesh in FS9? IS mesh the same for the different sims?

A lot of CFS2 files work in fs2004; and some don't... you'll need a bit of trial and error ; I'm still using an old fs2002/cfs2 Norway mesh.

Yes its very versatile and works well, i even started using it in FSX before i purchased a custom payware mesh
Great! I have some kind of mesh that I've had for so long that I've no idea where it came from. My Gib looks like a rock, tall with lots of vertical surface, but it doesn't look quite like The Rock. What mesh are you using and where can it be had?

Good work Ian!

Mick, it might be worth trying Jean Bomber's mesh for Gibraltar found in his CFS2 Afnor Scenery Part 1 pack.

Hi Mick, im using Rhumbaflappy mesh, DEM8. 22 files found in our own library. I just make a folder named mesh or whatever you want, unzip all Bgls into the scenery folder with-in and install like a normal scenery

I did try this and it looks good, and you get the docks aswell, but there's an altitude difference between CFS2 airfield and FS9 airfield. i try'd playing with flat areas, but nothing seem'd to work

Should it be more correctly RAF North Front; as it was named when opened in 1942
only sometimes and the name never really stuck

Got it but I see that it covers the whole world. Do you use it everywhere or just one file for this scenery? I see the LOD but I don't know what LOD my current mesh is ad it will take some digging to find out. Maybe I don't have to do the digging - I remember hearing or reading some years ago that one can just dump any mesh into a single folder and FS9 will just use the highest resolution it has for wherever you are in the world. Do you now if that's correct?

Mick,

With FS9, you are correct. One of the things I've found digging around for PW stuff is that the sim will use whatever the highest mesh is for a particular area.

That said, I have mine "layered" in the scenery.cfg so the higher, more detailed stuff is at a higher priority to the other stuff anyway. Some say I'm OCD, but it just makes sense to me to have the 70m one place, 30m in another folder, etc.

The same concept is used in FSX, from what I understand, except that in FSX it's all in one, single bgl file for the mesh. Because of that, there is no need to have different layers.

I'm not sure if you can put all the stuff into a single folder, but it would be a nice thing to try just to see if it works. As long as there are different file names it should not be an issue. Well, "SHOULD" being the operative word here. ;)

Saludos!

There was a map when he had his own site, but i can download them real fast from the SOH libary, so i figured i d take the whole lot :)

I do actually mix and match, i have a few specific areas in the same folder, Burma, Hawaii to name a couple and it seems to work fine

Ian, thanks for uploading a further nice scenery completing FS9 WWII world. Concerning Rhumbaflappy's meshs, I used DEM8 too. But I realized that they create a lot of annoying cliffs. Therefore I switched to LOD7, even it shows environment less realistic.Up to now I haven't found any really suitable mesh addons creating acceptable terrain rendering. Not even FSGW2010 does it.

I have all my mesh in one folder but if my memory is correct after all these years I didn't have anything that made me worry or wonder about possible conflicts. I'd like to try the Rhubafloppy mesh for Gibraltar and the Med but I don't think I'd dare put in the whole world for concern that it might mess up some other sceneries. When I first added mesh I had to make a lot of tricky, difficult and tedious alterations to quite a few sceneries that were made to work with the stock mesh. Same thing when I added corrected shorelines and lake shores. Unless I can find out which file to use for the just Med region I'll have to ponder this. I just don't have the hobby time to try the whole set and then go 'round all of the parts of the world where I have add-on scenery checking to see what still works. My present Rock isn't very impressive but it does look quite a bit like the real one, and since my working on projects with David and fixing up airports like dioramas, I never get to fly anyway so I'd probably hardly ever see whichever Rock I end up with.

I ve never had any problems anywhere ive flown from, and you can always deactivate the mesh folder in scenery library if you do find anything
Ive got one screen where my mesh folder sits in addon-scenery, and another of the contents of the mesh folder, hope this helps

I think the stock Rock is passable, but as Bernard points out, its the terrain rendering that lets the area down rather than the mesh, cliff's and beach's are a bit of a weak area for 9, not complaining, its an almost 20 year old sim, but it is what it is
