Railway Tracks

Pips

Charter Member
Being a very low and slow flyer (Antoinette, Demoiselle or the Bleriot being my preferred aeroplanes) I like to navigate around using railway tracks. But I have never seen any trains.

Do they exist in FSX? Is there a particular setting for them? I do have road traffic activated, although I keep it fairly low (usually around 35-40%).

What I'd really like to see would be some old-fashioned puffin-billies! :)

I'm pretty sure AI trains don't exist in FSX, but I believe there are a few railroad tracks - not many though. I recall UTX adding more tracks, but not actual AI trains.

Shame Microsoft closed ACES and Train Simulator 2 (along with Flight Simulator, for that matter) are postponed indefinitely.

I found a file for fs2004, should work for fsx, will be trying this week..

.......FS2004 PHOTOREALISTIC RAILROADS AND TRAINS VERSION 2.0
[For default users and for Ultimate Terrain USA/Canada/Europe]

UPDATES FOR VERSION 2
1.This is a stand-alone package. You dont need Version 1.
2.Fixed the confusion with trains not showing up in some default users and users of
ultimate terrain due to inaccurate naming of files.
3. Decreased the amount of trains on the tracks. There were too many trains separated by just a few hundred yards.
4. Six types of train combinations to choose from including
mixed passenger/cargo , industrial trains, old trains. Also the train engines are more clearly represented now.

BACKING UP YOUR TEXTURES:- (by simply renaming them to [ *BKUP.bmp ]
Open FS9/Scenery/World/Texture and rename all textures with the letters 'rail' in them to something else. So you will need to rename railroadsu.bmp (depending on if you have Ultimate Terrain or not).
In the same way, rename all files with the letters 'underR' in them. (theres one for each season; spunderR, suunderR, faunderR, wiunderR, hwunderR)

I think UTX also includes train textures for the railways.

I've switched them off however. Way too much traffic on the rails. :d
