Anyone know where I can find a copy of the freeware Socata Rallye by Eric Dantes? I was looking at the new FS2004 files over at FlightSim.com and came across a skin for a PZL Koliber which is a Polish-built license version of the Rallye and got intrigued by this interesting looking and interesting sounding aircraft (it apparently has excellent short field/STOL performance and features that are unusual for a 2-4 seat, low wing GA aircraft). Further poking around lead to posts saying that it was available as freeware over at the France VFR site, but I see neither hide nor hair of it. Any clues?

The freeware version didn't have a VC - that was part of the paid version included in the FranceVFR airplanes package. And no, I don't have it. But I would maybe like Eric Dantes FS2004 Twin Otters, which were also at FranceVFR for a while and which had a VC... I seem to have misplaced those as well.

Don't know which version it is, so can't vouch for legality; but its the top entry here

Flightstore had the French package for £15.99. I'd seen it in one of their brochures that came out with a copy of PCPilot and ummed and ahhhed about it for ages. But after reading this thread, its ordered and should be here tomorrow. Having about 40 hours in Rallyes, I'm quite looking forward to seeing what the payware version is like.

Will let you know how things progress.

I'd definitely like to hear more on how the Rallye package performs for you, Martin. I'm really intrigued with the Rallye, especially the versions with leading edge slats (full span?). If you think it worthwhile, I may want the software for myself.

Cheers,

What ThingManNeil said! Keep us in the loop, would you, T6Flyer. I will be very interested in your opinion of the package.

Well, I had no problem the ordering and the delivery (came the nextday), but had a few installing it. Most of the text is in French, but there are helpful English readme files for each item and all has to be installed manually. There are two aeroplanes the Rallye (in various versions....taildragger, glider tug, floatplane, 180hp Tourer) and then the TB9/10 package. Also included is some wonderful French VFR scenery for the island of Belle-Ile, Quiberon, Quessant, Les Sables d'Olonne and Beaune. If you do what is said in the readme files, you don't seem to get all installed into the simulator. Only Belle-Ile was automatically installed, the others have to be added through the usual way. Then there is no ICAO for Beaune, so after having a look on the net and adding that into the sim, it takes you to an empty field about 3 miles North!!!

But scenery is very accurate and think will be exploring the local countryside over the next few weeks. Might even then have a look at other France VFR packages.

Rallyes are very well detailed both in external and VC views and seem to fly very well. I've only a few hours on type, but felt at home, but did forget about the castoring nosewheel on my first flight and almost ended off the side of the runway. Leading edge slats pop in and out at low speeds. Only gripe so far and its only minor is that in the spot view, no pilot is visible. Not sure if there is one (tried / but to no avail).

I'm quite pleased with the package, now that have the scenery sorted and as have next week on holiday (am away now until Monday), will have something new to explore.

Hope this helps,

Martin

Beaune was interesting in particular as have been there in real life, 2 years ago when went in our Broussard on a tour of Belgium and France. Felt like was there when taxiied off the runway - very well modelled.

Looks good, Martin; the VC seems nicely modeled (always a plus in my books). The seeming lack of a pilot in the spot view's a tad annoying but it's probably tucked away in some odd little key command combo I'd guess. Anyway of ordering this other than that pamphlet you mentioned?

Have a good vaykay,

Neil,

Had a little look on the net as to the missing pilot and then after reading your reply, thought would see if it was a key combination. Simpler than that, it was the lights that made the pilot appear, which is ok, but upon entering the VC, you can turn some of them off and he's still there. So problem solved. Again enjoyed the brief time that I had with them today and think will remain towards the front of my virtual hangar in the future. Its always nice to have something in the sim, that you've flown in real life.

Only place that I could find to order the package from is where I purchased it, but I'm sure other people must stock it?

Afraid not off on vacation, but work nights and won't be back on the PC until Monday!!! Need my beauty sleep during the day!

Best wishes,

Martin
