Rami Campaigns

jinx

charter member past
Hello.

I have downloaded a few of Rami's campaigns, but unfortunately the links he gives in his Readme's--the ones of Ihave tried so far--are not working.
One would have to spend monthsrouning up the aircraft, and I am still not sure he would be successful.
One example is the Ground Crew aircraft. Where can anyone find them?
I also downloaded 3 Catalinas here to get one he wants renamed as PBY_A or something similiar.

In his Defence of Malaya Readme, one finds this:

AF PBY, updated by Allen
Filename: PBY-5A Catalina
Location: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...sort=d&doit=Go
Rename the aircraft folder to “PBY 5A”

RAF Skin for the PBY by Sopwith Cameleon
Filename. Scvnpby
Location: http://sopwithc.wetpaint.com/page/Downloads+Page+4

Prop Textures for PBY by Kelticheart Filename: VN_PBY5A_PROPEXH_KH Location: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...d&page=2&pp=20

Well, I tried the links and they do not work.

Perhaps Rami would update his links with ones that do work.

Otherwise, it is torture for people like me.

I could make my own Missions and Campaigns instead and may do so.

Nick

Nick,

Can we please be more specific? WHICH campaign or mission pack are you referencing, sir?

Jinx,

Also, Defense of Malaya is Skylane's campaign, not mine. I encouraged Skylane to use the hyperlinked format to assist users in finding these items.

However, every once in a while, files move, and being the imperfect humans that we all are, occasionally, we forget to update the links once in a while.

By the way, since you are from Greece, you may be interested to know that there are now plenty of missions in your part of the world.

Not to worry...they all have working links.

I understand it, Jinx

It can be pretty frustrating at times. Don't let it upset you. We'll help you straighten it out, no worries. There's no need for anybody to fire a shot across your bows. We've all been there.

Cheers all;

:wavey:Thanks to all,

I did find the Ground Crew site
and downloaded lots of stuff--all their ships and many a/c--all Heinkels I found there and all Swordfish skins and planes.

:adoration:Rami, I will look at your site, thank you. I thought "Rami" was the maker, now I find someone else is. Why is not the name of the original maker mentioned?

One must be a Sherlock Holmes at times to guess certain things, and the zips themselves hide many surprises.

I will look at all the Greek missions and campaigns.

However, I still find the download system here too complicated and diffuse, with filters like ABC, DEF, etc ( all hard to understand for me) and I often wish simhouse adopted a cleancut and tidy system like that of flightsim.com and avsim. It would better serve all downloaders, for sure.

Some items, like CFS2 British a/c, are clear enough but when it comes to certain others it looks like a tennis court with :pop4: grenades instead of downloads shuttling from one side of the court to the other... I do not mean to be negative, I am just recording my experiences with the site. And what I say should be in a new thread that proposes such changes to the setup, to be more constructive.... I can try that later.

I have lots of information on Greek Hurricanes in Greek and can do a repaint or two and perhaps a few missions.

Uncle Tgt: --none of the links you gave above work.... Why is that?

Jinx,

UncleTgt's links worked for me, what browser are you using?

I am in the process of making an auto-installer for the 20th Fighter Group.

Hey Jinx,

I tried the Links the UT gave.

Were you logged in when you tried them?

They are direct download links. If you not logged in then you will get a message saying your not authorized.

Till Later,
John

Side note:

I have trouble navigating the library as well. When you search, try to use the file name or author name. Many times I've had to google it. the shorter the "KEYWORDS" the better. It doesn't like multiple words.

I think part of the issue would be the "lost in translation" effect. The English language is hugely complex. It is both written and spoken, expressive and implied. I can be beautiful and down right ugly. My family has its roots in French and German as well as the Irish and Italian. The English language is that same melting pot. Taking words from many different languages and using them in ways they were never intended. Well it can also be long winded. So moving on.

Remember this K.I.S.S. "Keep It Simple, Stupid". The simpler it is, the easier it is for us to understand. Thats for all of us.

So having drawn that out. I think I'll go write a novel.

Jinx,

UncleTgt's links worked for me, what browser are you using?

I am in the process of making an auto-installer for the 20th Fighter Group.

UncleTgt's links worked for me also. I'm using Firefox as my browser.

None of Uncle Tgt's worked for me, in Internet Explorer and in Firefox.

I found a way that seems to work: I note one nation's a/c, Japanese for example, down on a piece of paper--all the ones mentioned in the Readme. Then I start searching in that nation's a/c downloads from page 1 to the last page. That wai I run into the downloads needed. But it is a long process.

If somehow the name of the zip (eg xxxx.zip) could be searched here all would be easier for everyone.

Thanks

Jinx,

Try using the library search function & search by username (right-hand side of the search form), it might be quicker

"Allen" - 84 entries
"Sopwith Chameloeon" - 204 entries
"Kelticheart" - 171 entries

You can sort these in ABC order, date uploaded, number of hits...

Jinx,

The Malaya campaigns were made by me, so Rami is not at fault.

The links in my readme point to the page where the reqired file can be found. Scroll down and look for rhe filename, then download the file.

These campaigns are several years old. Some time ago I reworked all the readme files to update the links. Still, it may be that a site has shut down since then or a file has been updated and therefore moved.

I'm not at home right now, so I can't check it, but I'm sure most of my links still work. From the ones you mention in your first post, Sopwith's site, where the skin was actually seems to be down. The Catalina has been updated since I wrote the readme and apparentl moved to a different place.

The link to the prop textures in your post actually works, so I don't understand your problem with that one.

It also happens to me every now and then, that I install something and come across a broken link. Well, I usually find it myself rather quickly, otherwise I ask here, and someone helps.

I do not sell my stuff, therefore I do not feel obliged to provide product support by constantly checking all the links all the time. If someone points out that something is not working any more, I usually do update them, as time permits, but I also have a few other things to do.

:wavey:Uncle Tgt,

Thanks, I can also try what you advise.

I have made a couple of Beaufighter missions myself, based on the book written by Cats's Eyes Cunningham's navigator, where he describes how their Beau searched in the night for a Dornier over the Uk and shot it down. I had used Colin Muir's Beau at the time. I will upload that when I find it on my discs, but first to flightsim.com and then later here.

Nick

Nick,

If you like night-time intercepts you should look for Bismark 13's (William Dickens) Beaufighters, they include a MkIIF...

:wavey:Skylane,

Thanks for the info and for the campaign.

Reading a book by General Slim titled DEFEAT INTO VICTORY on the Burma campaign, probably the hardest of the whole war on the soldiers, constantli knee-deep in mud and in rain and with malaria klling thousands. The book is one of the best written books I have read, ever and though the only aerial opertations were supply dropping and evacutation of the wounded and flights over the hump, It is worth doing a few missions in that vein. I will look for Burman scenery and if I find some with airfields, I might just do a few missions.

:untroubled:Slim's book was what made me download the Malaya campaign, though that does not cover the Impha-Chindwin-Kohima-Assam and India and other areas of the Burma theater.

Nick

Uncle Tgt,

Thanks for the info.

There is something I do not understand about those 3-letter filters in one of the search windows> For example, ABC.

Does it mean that it will come up with all files whose names begin with A, B, or C or what?

In particular, I wanted to find this (from the Readme):

MitsubishiKi-21
Filename:BR-2 Ki-21 Sally

I used the ABC filter and nothing came up. How on earth do I find this addon above? I went through all the pages of the Jap planes and still did not find it.

This is proving to be a loser's game for me.

And then again, some of the maker's names are not in the other search tabs.

Nick

Welcome Nick and thanks for coming to share with us. Sorry about the challenges with the files. People will help if they can I am sure.

Nick,

I'm not sure the ABC filter helps much either.:banghead: The keyword filter is a recent introduction, but will catch a lot of the recent stuff uploaded. Over time this keyword list will grow.

I agree the search function can be frustrating, I've had best results using it to limit search results to a single mod author.

Another way of catching stuff is to sort the whole section by date uploaded or number of hits - number of hits as a sort will at least mean you'll be confronted with the most popular items first:encouragement:
