Rami - here's my post.

SOH-CM-2024
Greetings again Rami and all flyers.

As I mentioned I have a fair amount of various files from Combatfs and Simout for CFS1 & 2 going back yonks and yonks.

I have not been able to prove them extant here at Simout (quite possibly due to my search abilities), so I thought I would post some to see if they really do not exist here or it's all in my tiny mind.

Here's a sample from Simout for CFS1:

CAMPAIGNS & MISSIONS:

combrafbob.zip: The BoB combined RAF experience: Included is a campaign that starts as the BoB hurricane experience and ends like the BoB spitfire experience. No new missions are included, the missions from the BoB hurricane- and spitfire experiences are used, so both downloads are needed to be installed. Also included are 2 kinds of alternative damage profiles for the planes used in the experience campaigns that you fly for the RAF. The Dp's included make every kill more difficult. By Waco Jaco.

Nathaniel_1_mission.zip: Nathaniel_1_mission.zip; Hy, this is my first mission I have made so far. This is freeware so dont pay for it. This mission includes my entire family
(including me=Nathaniel) and we are flying jets. You will need to push X three times before you reach the airfield. My
thanks to Cor Dikland for his excellent Mission editor. I had no problems with this on my computer. So enjoy! Nathaniel aka Jimmy Doolittle

Please let me know what you think. If any are missing I am more than happy to upload them for those flyers who may need them. If you say Simout has all of these and it's me who can't find them I will take the next bus to the happy home and sit and rust in the corner!

Regards Rami & all,

Graham.

Lummie, 'wouldn't yer just believe it guv'nr'..

I'm starting to find a couple of the files as I look now. My only hope now is that some may still be missing. I somehow knew when I started this post I'd end up looking a twat.

Still, 'wot's dun's dun, ain't it guv'nr'.

Awaiting the flak, got me tin 'at on.

Graham.

that's interesting....
i see the aac_klhoee tank on you list.
i remember way back when
Johnny built it and named it
after my granddaughter.

Nice Assortment of Stuff

I actually have a lot of that stuff too. Hope you can get your archives hosted here, there are a few things on your list I haven't tried yet.

- Ivan.

Ivan I haven't started on the list yet. I've tons of stuff for CFS2 as I seperated pre and post crash folders. I have been looking for files I have and if they appear I move them to the post crash folder. I did not do that for 1 as I thought it would not change materially.

But I still have gallons of 1 stuff (Simout and Combatfs) and I am more than happy to upload once the 'missing list' can be confirmed (and I've sent in the complete list). Should I continue making the lists?

Just need to know how to confirm the lost souls and I'll be away.

I feel all this is very important for us all and those who follow. I know CFS1 will be played for at least another ten years, my grandson loves it. Not too keen on 2 'cos he doesn't like the A/C sounds and scenery. A man of great wisdom for a ten year old!

Everybody please keep this post alive.

Graham.

Sorry smilo. Now I know the reason for the tanks name. I went off trying to find it in history books...

Here's some more gang. Could I ask a question please? Are there any more files in simouthouse for CFS1 in any place other than those in the 'CFS1/ADDONS/Aircraft/Textures/' places?

I have been checking those places this time to make sure I don't post doubles.

Here's some more simout/CFS1 with more to come. Then I'll move on to Combatfs and Netwings provided I'm not breaking any forum rules.

Hello,

I'm sorry I didn't see this yesterday, but if you have files to upload, by all means, please do so.

Hello Rami, sorry for the late reply.....'er indoors'.

The problem I have Rami is identifying those files which are missing from our site. I have been trawling through attempting to find them but somehow I don't seem to be making a lot of headway.

Is there a list somewhere of the extant .zip files? If such a thing exists it would be a great blessing.

I could start uploading the files blindly but I feel I could be spending a fair bit of time just to annoy you by shipping in those which we already have. I have a lot more to list still just for CFS1 and masses for CFS2, (Simout, Netwings & Combatfs).

If you could let me know the best way to avoid duplication I would be most gratefull or if there is no real way of achieving this I will start uploading the lot, regardless.

Regards,

Graham.

Graham,

Sorry for the belated reply. The best way to do this would be to comb through the library and upload what you find is missing. It will be a long and arduous project, similar to when SOH members reconstructed most of the library several years ago. You can also start a thread or use this one telling me which files you plan to upload. Keep posting and we can discuss it further!

Thank you Rami. Please see the lists I have available earlier on in this post. I'm sure a lot of them aren't here as I've looked as best I can for them in the library.

I did enquire earlier if there was a definitive list for the CFS1 files extant to hand as a number of times I've found some after posting my list of those I have above.

In the mean time I will compile the rest I have for simout then start on the Netwings and Combatfs stuff.

Will post soonest.

Thanks again mate,

Graham.

As I might have mentioned before, I have a LOT of stuff that isn't hosted here and hasn't been mentioned yet.
The problem is whether or not I would be offending the original designer if I were to upload their work or a modified version of their work.

When I install things on my computers, often I find bugs that are not all that difficult to fix and I fix them for my own use without the intention of distributing further. There are also others' projects that I have updated upon the request of friends. I do the updates and leave the agreements for distrubution up to those friends.

- Ivan.

Understood Ivan but the files I have listed so far are from simouthouse originally, so I think there would not be a problem with reloading them for a second time.

Also simouthouse lists at the bottom of it's pages that it is the curator of Combatfs and Netwings files, so I thought it would be fully in the spirit of saving them by uploading those as well.

I am not offering, nor ever would, to upload anything which is outside of these three sites.

Am I correct in this assumption? Please let me know.

Graham.

If there is any interest, this is the final list of simouthouse files, posted as I stated I would.

I believe I have around 300 or so downloads that I have accumulated over the years.
As for the source and conditions for download, I have no idea what they were.
On my development computer, I have around 350 installed aircraft.
On the game computer, I figure there are around 300 or so aircraft at the moment.
On the installed aircraft, I can't prove anything beyond the stock aircraft are original because when I see problems, I try to correct them and don't necessarily save the original pieces.

Now how would one go about sorting through all that?

- Ivan.

Ivan,

The same way the CFS2/CFS3/FS 8/FS 9/FSX communities did when their downloads sections were rebuilt. Cross-reference what you have with what is already in the library, and upload accordingly. I may also have some older CFS1 files on the copy of the SOH content server on my backup drive.

Rami,

By simple count, I have a bunch of things you don't have here. The problem is that I don't know without reading through every archive whether or not there are upload restrictions. I KNOW there are restrictions on some of the Japanese stuff.

As for modified stuff, I don't feel comfortable at this point with uploading stuff like that even though I am sure all my changes were improvements.

Is there a list of stuff that is missing that I can reference?

I know that some of my own uploads are not here any more, but don't feel that they are up to current standards which is why I haven't uploaded them again.

- Ivan.

Reply...

Ivan,

There really isn't a reference list, unless you cross-reference the old archive with the new library. If there are restrictions, you have to make the best determination according to the readme file. If it doesn't feel ethical to upload it, that's a good rule of thumb.

Gentlemen, from day one I have always put files I have downloaded into their respective site folders. In simouthouse's case I have two site folders; pre and post crash. This applies to all the different sim types. I can, therefore, tell which is which. All the files are 'as downloaded', without modification. I know, Ivan, you kindly modified a DP for me with regard to an A/c which flew 'clockface-circles' in Quick Combat. I would not upload that to any site nor to anybody who might request it. That would be for the original designer to do. I respect designers' skill and ownership.

I agree with you Ivan, I cannot find any file using the search engine, also I have D'Ld files twice as the author's notes do not mention the name of the .zip file.

Unfortunately you can easily see the .zip file name in simviation without having to download it. This is quite a bonus.

So gentlemen, please may I have guidance here; do I upload or not?

I have a mass of CFS2 files so if the answer is positive, as the nights draw in I will spend many a happy hour sending them over.

I await your decision,

Graham.

Reply...

Graham,

Yes, you can go ahead and upload at your discretion, and I can discern anything that might be a problem. In addition, it depends on how you use the search engine. It can work wonderfully if you know part of the information, such as the username or anything else.

Thank you Rami. I will start uploading very soon. I can only hope when I start the CFS2 stuff I don't send you files already on site. I'm afraid simouts search engine is beyond my control!

Last thing, I asked for a decision on the uploading of Combatfs & Netwings files. Are these O.K. for uploading or not?

Many thanks again Rami, I can now feel, in a small way, I'm contributing to the site instead of being a drone.

Graham.
