Razorback P-47 "Snafu" Looking Closer to First Flight

The Fighter Collection's immaculate P-47G "Snafu" was photographed just over 2-hours ago, being fueled up out on the grass at Duxford, with possible signs of a first flight to happen soon. Looks like good weather for it, if so:

It has lately been undergoing several engine runs and taxi-tests in preperation.

Update: Today's opperations centered around another taxi test and high-power runs - it's getting close, though!

For comparison (and showing how much attention to detail was incorporated into the restoration), here are some photos of the original wartime aircraft. Note that the factory P-47 rear-view mirror, that would be mounted on the top of the windscreen, was removed and a Spitfire mirror was added in the field. It was actually rather common to do this in England witht he razorback Thunderbolts, and although no photos can confirm it on the original "Snafu", it was also very common practice to then take that stock P-47 mirror and mount it on the side of the fuselage, just under the windscreen, to provide a better rear-view look around the fuselage/tail from the side of the aircraft, and that exact type of modification has been reproduced on the restored aircraft. Some other details I love about this restoration, is that all of the factory stencils that woud have been over-painted by the markings applied in the field back in WWII, are replicated as such in the application of the stencils/markings on the restored aircraft (instead of applying the factory stencils over the field-applied markings, which wouldn't have been authentic). This type of restoration and detail work reminds me of something like the restored P-51D "Happy Jack's Go Buggy".
