• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

    Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

  • Server side Maintenance is done. We still have an update to the forum software to run but that one will have to wait for a better time.

Re: SOH membership restrictions

G'Day All;

I guess I've become one of the "silent majority" here ... only posting comments occasionally.
Don't fly CFS2 much anymore .. but still come here daily to keep up on things.

Occasionally I feel inspired enough to post a comment .. like today.
I'm starting a new thread because I don't want Uncle T's thread to get any farther off topic.
Just a simple form of "common" respect & forethought.

We must all understand WHY SOH has put so many rules & restrictions on membership.

How many of you can remember way back to 2007-10 when this site was BLASTED & ALMOST DESTROYED BY MALWARE & HACKERS - SEVERAL TIMES?
Just ask Rami what a monumental task it was to restore the library from virtually NOTHING.

These rules & restrictions are in place for the good of us all.
They protect the site, plus sim & personal data from being compromised by outside entities.
With the internet becoming increasingly more hostile, measure have been put in place to secure the site.

Should any of you disagree with what I have said ... PLEASE keep reading the above until THE REASON finally sinks into your thick melon.

This is the way things are now done @ SOH ... obviously for good reason.

IF you find the restrictions here are not to your liking ... maybe you should move to SimV instead of whining like an ignorant child.

Ignorance is easily cured thru knowledge.
Stupidity is incurable and quite often fatal.

SOH Creators & Contributors
:medals::medals::medals:

You are the backbone that keeps our "Grand Old Lady" alive & prospering ... still standing tall & proud ... 23+ years after her release.

I personally know many of you, past & present ... some for many, many years.
- in 2010 Rami came to visit me at my "Beer-can Bunker" here in Toronto.

I know for a fact that this a 100% "Labour of Love".
Not for money, maybe just a bit of fame; but mainly because you enjoy it so much plus the added enjoyment by others.

Perhaps this could be viewed as a "selfless act" .. something that benefits others more than ones self?

Further to this .. you tend to see your magnificent & imaginative creations as "your children".
As "protective Parents" you want to see your "kids" do well, to be accepted & appreciated by their peers.

However, judging popularity thru the "number of downloads" is pure folly.
I too have gone each morning to check on how many d/l's my upload has had.

"Rabid" members will usually immediately d/l a new campaign or a/c ... yet often it just sits in the "pile of stuff to install" at a later date.

The problems occur after the fact, when some issue arises and a "patch or tweak" is created.
I prefer to wait a while until all bugs are cleared.

I joined SOH in 2005, almost 18 years ago and have (almost) seen everything.
I've created a few "bits & pieces" for CFS2 over the years but nothing recent nor on the level with our "Great Creators & Contributors" of the past & present.

I wish to sincerely THANK ALL OF YOU for exponentially increasing my personal enjoyment of CFS2 ... because if not for you ... we would not be here today.

Respectfully;
Dirtman

Well said that man. I remember those times, and the sterling work by Rami and so many others in keeping things afloat. The rules here aren't onerous, but they are here for a reason. And the most important rule, for me, is:

Let Being Helpful Be More Important Than Being Right!
